This hotel was very convienent to shopping, eatting and all modes of transportation. The room was quite adequate, although a little small but that is the norm. The bathroom was very small, but again adequate. We stayed in a bit larger room b/c we had 2 twin beds and we were on the 12th floor. I think being on the 12th out of 14 floors made it a bit warner, but I said something to the front desk when I felt it got even warmer in the room and they called someone and said they will make it colder and they really did and it was quite cool. The beds are a bit hard, but the linens are nice (down comforter) so I slept on top of that and was fine. There is also a small fridge which was GREAT to have. The breakfast buffet was great, but included with our price since I stayed there b/c that is where the conference put us.
The hotel staff was very friendly and spoke English, although, not that well for some. They did provide maps and directions to area attractions. The Starbucks right there near the lobby was also bonus. There is an English pub very close by as well that we greatly enjoyed!
Shiji is the main street in Kyoto and it's only 1.5 blocks away!
I recommend this hotel as I do not know if you could get a better price for the stay anywhere else in Kyoto. The only downside was the lack of excellent spoken English, but some were much better than others.
