Stayed in a twin room for 4 nights. Bathroom has toiletries and shower/tub combo. Good water pressure, and hot!
Enjoyed the Western and Japanese Buffet Breakfast every morning (included in my price) AND they have 3 computers for FREE internet.
They also have FREE bikes to borrow, and EVERYONE in Kyoto rides bikes, so even after a long day of walking to sights, we still rode our bikes around at night and checked out the "department stores".
It was 210yen on the subway from JR kyoto station (one way fare) and literally a 2 min walk to the hotel. Get off at Karasuma-Oike subway stop. Go to NORTH exit, thru ticket gates and go up flight of stairs on right. Walk straight ahead and turn left at 2nd side street (before 7,11 store). The gate attendants have a map if you're not sure. Even at midnight (when we checked in)!

At first it seemed impossible to find a clean standard hotel in Kyoto less than 12,000 yens. Hearton hotel was a nice surprise costing us only around 8000 yen per night through http://lm.hotelclub.net/. Hearton is a standard business hotel but we thought it was very clean and good for that price. We stayed in a twin-room which was very small but convenient. We thought the location was extremely good, in the middle of Kyoto. Easy access to anywhere in the city. Subway station is right next to it (1 min walk). The hotel is located in a peaceful street. There are restaurants nearby for example in the Shimpukan-centre (also shops). The staff was always very helpful, though english is spoken very little. Free internet access 24/7. Self-service laundry machines. Everything worked great. Would go there again.

Hearton Kyoto is located in a small lane less than 1 min walk to the main road.

1) Less than 5 mins walk to Kurasuma Oike station.

2) Less than 3 mins walk to nearest 7-11 convenience store.

3) Less than 8 mins walk to 24 hrs restaurant offering set meals.

4) Less than 20 mins walk to Ninshino wet market and shopping arcade. (a better place to shop than areas around Kyoto station)

5) Less than 30 mins walk to Nijo Castle and Imperial Palace.

6) Less than 40 mins walk to Gion and shopping district.

-Facilities-
1) 3 computers with internet access at level 2 provided for free.

2) Free pant ironing machine

3) Free ice cubes via ice cubes machine.

4) Ethernet cable available in our room.

5) Free toilet accessories.

6) 1000 Yen american breakfast buffet is available. For those with breakfast covered, you get to choose between Japanese breakfast set or american breakfast buffet. Buffet choice is limited but enough to make u full.

7) Free radio channel in room but TV programs are boring. Mostly japanese channels and 1 BBC channel.

In summary, we like this hotel for the location, friendly staff and nice comfortable bed! I dont have any complain about this hotel probably only the breakfast spread is limited and doesnt change when we stayed there for 4 nights.

Kyoto is a walking city, if u can, i suggest u to walk to the eastern kyoto to explore the temples. For Arashiyama, you may get the 1000 yen one day pass for tenga and kyoto subway line ticket. It took us less than 1 hr to reach Arayshima via subway and tram!!

We stayed here for three nights at the end of December 2007.
The hotel is close to a subway station (I can't recall which one though) but its not on the main street, it's on a side street so a little difficult to find at first.
The hotel is a little dated and drab but the staff were very friendly. Our room was fairly standard for a japanese hotel room - not huge - although the bathroom was a little bigger than normal.
Our rate included breakfast and the selection was quite good, nice mix of japanese and western food.
The location of the hotel isn't great though - its quite a walk from the main area of Kyoto, although the subway station is close.
I'd recommend it overall though, but there are better places to stay.
