Owner description: Arashiyama is a small town on the Oi River. Its moon-crossing bridge, Togetsu-kyo, is a beautiful, much-beloved wooden structure. Arishiyama also has Tenryu-ji temple, one of the 14 World Heritage Sites in Kyoto.

“a little paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

A special vist away from the heart of Kyoto - there we saw the bamboo forest with its mystical sounds and colors... followed by the Tenryu-ji temple with loads of hill side azaleas and cherry blossoms, with a very grand koi pond... After that we hiked up the hill (LONG hike, have good shoes) to Monkey Mountain, where we saw and fed loads of japanese monkeys, and a young one playing with the kois in the pond - who appeared to be playing with him also. A blessed place.
A great part of that day trip was lunch at a restaurant called "ARASHIYAMA YOSHIMURA" that was on a path directly next to the river, at the main road. Very comfortable, classy (with private dining rooms, each with garden views) and affordably priced. It impressed me, and the soba noodles were EXCELLENT. Very nice gift shop.

“Wonderful place surrounded by Bamboo. Good during dusk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This is a wonderful place surrounded by bamboo trees all around. You will love this place if you love walking. It is a long walk and the bamboo trees are throughout the walk area.
I kind of liked this place, walked with my wife during the evening. This place is cold during the evening and a long walk with my beloved made the time pleasant and lovely.

It is a walk way for Tenryu-ji temple, one of the 14 World Heritage Sites in Kyoto. All together a different experience.

Cheers
Vijay

“Great day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013 via mobile

Took the romantic railway for an easy sightseeing trip. Then walked about the town. Very nice and the air was crisp - one of the highlight of my trip.

“If You Don't See Anything Else in Kyoto, See Arashiyama”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

This was my 5th visit to Kyoto, but because I was usually showing other people around Higashiyama and the central city, I had never been to Arashiyama. It turned out to be my favorite place so far, mainly because of the river--actually the convergence of two rivers into the Katsura, and the charming restaurants, temples and shrines along its banks. It didn't hurt that it was cherry blossom season! Be sure to have a traditional Kyoto lunch of yuudofu by the river.

“Cherry blossom time.......unbelievable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We were here at the end of March when the cherry blossoms were in bloom. What an experience!
The gardens were alive with colour. There were azaleas, camellias and magnolia flowering as well.
The whole place was so clean and well designed, there was a pond there also with the biggest koi you have ever seen.
We had lunch in the Zen vegetarian restaurant, which was wonderful for the full Japanese dining experience. Lovely traditional surroundings and food was traditional also.
Really great. loved every minute of it. Also, not far from Kyoto and the train.
