Owner description: Arashiyama is a small town on the Oi River. Its moon-crossing bridge, Togetsu-kyo, is a beautiful, much-beloved wooden structure. Arishiyama also has Tenryu-ji temple, one of the 14 World Heritage Sites in Kyoto.

“Peaceful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Arashimaya was beautiful in Autumn. The Tenryu-ji temple was peaceful. Each temple we visited had its own charm, lovely gardens. The bamboo groves were spectacular.

“A beautiful place to be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Arashiyama is indeed a place to visit if one wants to experience the true japanese culture. The place is full of traditional dining outlets giving us many choice and experience. We went on a very hot summer day and the choices of green tea ice-cream were available everywhere.
We also had a wonderful time exploring the various places of interested in Arashiyama which includes shrines and temples

“Not quite what we'd imagined...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Arashiyama is a beautiful bamboo grove. It's very tall, and many gorgeous shades of green. But it's also quite small, and alongside a local railway track. It wasn't quite the magical experience we were expecting. Having said that, nearby there are waterside parks, boats and a charming tourist town, which would combine to make it a lovely day trip during Summer (we were there on a cold and overcast day).

“So Many Things to See!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

The monkey park was my favorite, the bamboo grove at night during the December illuminations was simply gorgeous! Thousands of candles lit the pathway. The Sagano Scenic train was delightful and the Hozugawa River Cruises on the return was great fun-but be prepared you have to climb down into the boat and sit on the floor and the knees cramp a bit on the 2 hour journey.

“One of the most serene and magnificent places I have been to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

As you drive toward Arashiyama, you would already see a picturesque landscape, beautiful sky, beautiful mountain and river. The highlight inside was the picture perfect zen garden. When you see through the window, it is like looking at a real life painting through the window framing.
Our guide said, the garden artists made the zen garden in relation to the mountains as a backdrop. it's really wow.
then, follow the path and it will lead you to the mesmerizing bamboo forest.
when you want to escape the workaday world closing your eyes to relax, this is the place that you would like to visualize on your mind because it is a most beautiful image of solace and calm.
