“Tranquil walk along this Bamboo Forest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

After temple/shrine sightseeing fatigue, a walk along the bamboo forest gives you a relaxing feel. I feel much refreshed just walking past the trees and if you do get tired, there are rickshaws available. I had a very fun ride in them.

“Kyoto - Bamboo Forest at Arashiyama”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Worth the time to visit! It's quite beautiful and serene and once you exit the forest there are little neighbourhoods you can stroll through... some interesting shops in those neighbourhoods with stuff more unique than the usual tourist junk.

“LOVING it!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

I LOVE this place very much!!!! Seeing all the bamboos........ bamboo shoot...... it's such a nice forest to stroll with my hubby...... The air is so fresh.....
There's a long track and but I wasn't able to walk the whole track due to my shoes broken that day. Nonetheless... It's truly enjoying seeing all the greens.....the tranquility of the forest....
As a reminder.... cameras tripods are not allowed as there are lots of ppl walking up and down. However, I saw a couple that actually brought their mini 'bendable' tripod and 'wraped' it around the nearby bamboo tree to take self-shoot photo. I think it's creative but still not so good as it may hurt the trees. Ppl are more than willing to help each other to take photo. So, no worries :)
The weather was so breezy and it's just nice to walk slowly there......

“Kyoto - Bamboo Forest at Arashiyama”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013 via mobile

I went on 21-May. You need to walk much deeper into the Forest trail to be able to see the nice bamboo stretch and enjoy the tranquility. The ones at the start of the trail are not nice and crowded with people.

“A lush slice of tranquility in the beautiful town of Arashiama”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

The bamboo forrest is one of those attractions I had seen and heard a lot about and it was my absolute number 1 attraction that I just had to visit during my 4 days in Kyoto. I was not disappointed. It was a rainy day and our party all had umbrellas - I actually think the rain added to the tranquil experience of walking through a large bamboo grove past lovely homes, temples and gardens. we stopped in to visit some shrines and a lovely garden along the way. The bamboo plants tower above you and in parts almost form a canopy above your head. The forrest is thick with a meandering path. I like the way the fence is made of bamboo so everything feels in harmony with nature. Despite feeling as if you are at times in a rather isolated spot, dont be suprised to find the odd vending machine selling drinks along the way! Make sure you also stop in and visit the beautiful garden and temple Tenryu-ji which is one of my favourite gardens in Kyoto. The whole area of Arashiyama is beautiful and should not be missed on a Kyoto itinerary.
not far from the bamboo forrest is a shopping area full of lovely unique cafes, shops and restaurants so make sure you stop somewhere for lunch.
