It was hard to know where to book when travelling to Kyoto, but we DEFINITELY hit the nail on the head with this beauty!!! The location is phenomenal, with the subway and train line a short walk away. Your just outside all the action of Gion, but all within walking distance.

The hotel itself is simple and beautiful. All you need really! We went for the breakfast option and it was definitely worth it. You cant beat a boiled egg and miso soup in the morning, and the sweet bread with jam was amazing!

If you're looking for a well-rounded hotel in a fabulous location, LOOK NO FURTHER!

I stayed here for 3 nights in a Japanese Style "Wind Room". Whilst this was on the pricier side and I was initially hesitant, having now experienced Hana Hotel, Kyoto, it is worth every ¥ of the asking room rate. Small boutique hotel, located, just minutes from the subway & next door to convenience store. Also walking distance to many attractions and shops. Our room was lovely, tastefully furnished in a Japanese style complete with tatami mats. The bathroom was throughly modern and more akin to a wet room. It did not matter if you splashed water on the floor/tiles as this was heated & would dry quickly.
We had selected the breakfast option for convenience. This was simple fare which was a combination of Japanese and western breakfast items. The staff were so courteous and excellent in assisting us with directions. They also speak English which is a big plus for small boutique Japanese hotel. Highly recommended. Thank you Hana Hotel for a wonderful time in Kyoto.

I LOVE Kyoto. It was my favorite place I visited in Japan and our hotel was located walking distance from all the action---the river, the amazing restaurants above the river on stilts (we went twice and I recommend it highly), the stores and malls and a million amazing restaurants, bakeries and bars and convenient stores. The river scene is especially fun. We would go get some sake to go from the Family Mart and drink them by the river while kids played guitars and couples made out. Such a special experience and only a few blocks from this hotel! I also walked a short distance to do laundry! The hotel gives you gifts of hair clips and bath salts which is nice and the room is simple, clean and we slept great but really this place is all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Highly recommended. Right near the subway and just a nice place in the one of my favorite cities.

We liked the position of the hotel: very close to Gion and to the metro station (50 mt). The rooms are wide, clean and very comfortable. The staff are really kind and always smiling and ready to help you for every thing (reserving a table in a restaurant, suggest you one of them...).
Only the fridge in our room was a little noisy!

I was in Japan for 2 weeks and stayed at Kyoto Hana Hotel for 4 nights in late July 2014. It was the best hotel of my trip. I don't normally care to do reviews but this time I kind of feel like they deserve it.

The staff, while I was there, were young, pleasant, friendly, courteous and eager to help. All smiles. You kind of expect that of hotel staff anywhere but the reality is not so. Here, it even feels genuine. There are several examples could give but suffice it to say that I was happy enough to extend my stay by 1 night. Importantly, those that I encountered are able to speak passable English.

Its location I think is excellent, near a nice river. Plenty of places are walk-able from the hotel. 5-10 minutes south to the Gion district. In the northeast are Heian Shrine, Eikan-dō Zenrin-ji etc. To the west, there's Nijo Castle, Nishiki Market, etc. Across the river is a whole shopping arcade with plenty of shops and restaurants. My point is that there are many things to do and places to visit within walking distance from the hotel. Honestly, I am not sure if I'd be able to find a "better location". In my estimation, it is surely better than being around Kyoto station.

Perhaps the one con about it's location is that there are no restaurants in its immediate vicinity that open till late. But there is a convenience store next door and just across the river are plenty of shops and restaurants.

The room is clean, simple and pleasant. I did not feel that it was too small or anything. Considering that we're talking about Japan, it's decent. A nice feature is the foot massager in the room which you do not have to pay to use. Small but adequate cupboard to put your stuff. Free wi-fi available in room, although the connection is sometimes not steady. Did not try their breakfast. Can't say I have any complaints really.

Hotel Hana is, while not completely central, is still very well located, being very close to Gion and some great restaurants in the opposite direction. The rooms were clean and the staff were friendly.
