“Great base to explore Gion/Kyoto, friendly helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

We stayed 4 nights on the 5th floor of this quaint hotel as part of our Japan adventure. Room was spacious with large bathroom and twin beds which were larger than singles. Fantastic location to explore Gion and lots of restaurants close by. Only gripes were very minor things; smallish hard pillow (tends to be the japanese style though!!) 2 of the lifts were absolutely tiny and not pleasant if you are claustrophobic. The one opposite the 2 next to each other is much larger so we always used that one :) Some minor street noise but we didn't spend much time at the hotel anyway. Music at breakfast was repetitive and a little depressing!! Breakfast buffet okay. Standard fare with both Western and Japanese options. Free wifi which was great. Staff spoke varying degrees of English but were all very friendly, efficient and helpful regardless of any language barriers. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel as a comfortable hotel and a good base to explore Kyoto.

The location is the best. Walking distance from the famous geisha street. Spotted more than 5 geisha as a gang in one evening. Its right on the shijo street corner. Good eating and walking place. Big Convenience store opposite to the hotel.

Have no Japanese traditional room, but it's OK. The room is quite good and cozy. You can find everything you need. I will recommend to firends who want to visit Kyoto.
Location is quite good, esay to get to the other place in this city by taking pubilic traffic. Have beautiful sight even in the night when in Sakura season in the near park.

Excellent hotel with spacious rooms. The bathroom was big too. The hotel is perfectly located,, tourist bus to all the must-see destination is jus around the corner, walking distance to main night life area. The staff is helpful. You can find vending machines at the ground floor. I strongly recommend this hotel for a stress-free stay in Kyoto. Nothing else i could add that the tons of great praise all can read about by other reviewer!

A small reasonably-priced hotel right in the heart of Gion...in other words, the best place to be Kyoto.
Next to a bus stop, and a 5-10 minute walk from the subway network. Good public transport options to Kyoto Station, or about Y1,000 in a taxi.
A surprisingly large room, with huge bath/shower room on the top floor (6F) looking out over the mountains. A twin-bed room, which turned out to be 2 double beds. Free WiFi, and at Y1,500 per person, a buffet breakfast with plenty of Japanese and Western options that is very worthwhile. No laundry facilities, but there's a public laundromat a minute or two away. Toiletries replaced daily.
The hotel fronts onto a busy road, but at the back, we were able to sleep with the windows open. Fresh air and all. I'm not sure if the lower floors at the rear would get the view though.
No dining or bar facilities available within the hotel, but with so many options within 1 minute of the hotel, you don't miss it.
Front desk staff spoke enough English to get by.
Would definitely recommend this hotel. It's better than the official star rating.

This is one of the better value hotels we have been in Kyoto. The room is spacious (by Japanese standard), wide windows making the room bright during the day, views of some trees/plants, useful amenities (water kettle, fridge, tables and chairs for breakfast in the room, and wide screen TV), and big bathroom with separate shower and bath tub (believe me, this is not usual for the price of other hotels in Kyoto). The staff are courteous and knowledgeable. The location is the best, right in the heart of Gion.

To get to the hotel, visitors can take bus 100 (or 206) from Kyoto station and the bus stops right across the street. To visit some of major attractions in Kyoto, visitors can take bus 100; the bus stops at Kiyomizu-dera, Kyoto museum, and several other temples with final stop at the Kyoto station. Bus costs only Y230 while a taxi can cost about Y1500. Visitors can walk to the famous Tsujuri tea house (try one of their desserts!), Starbucks, Pontocho are (old Kyoto streets), Nishiki market, and big department stores. Can't beat this hotel's location. The location is safe, quiet, and convenient. The hotel is very clean, the room spacious, and the staff are gracious and polite. Will definitely come back when visiting Kyoto.

Unfortunately we only spend one night at the hotel but the location was great to explore Gion in the Southern Higashiyama district. The hotel was just steps away from the Yasaka shrine, shops and restaurants. The room was spacious and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Would definitely book this hotel again.
