“Fushimi Inari Shrine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

A fabulous place to visit. We were very impressed by the huge number of vermillion torii gates forming tunnels to walk through. The views from the track on the way to the top are breathtaking. Easy access by train. Loved the foxes, the messengers and the holder of the key to the rice grain storage. We went mid afternoon and experienced the beauty as dusk fell. If you choose this time shop for souvenirs/food on your way in, as the shops were closed when we left. The shrines and trails are open 24 hours. Entry is free.

“Highly recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Close to Kyoto by train, makes it a perfect site not far of the shrine and routes of very photogenic red torii gates.

“Hiking through a lot of red gates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

It's really worth going there. You can see it as a hike, since there are many, many stairs and even more of the red Tori gates. From the very top, you have a view over Kyoto. Signs there are Japanese, but you can also navigate intuitively.

“Love it - one of my favourite shrines in Kyoto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Always popular, the Fushimi Inara is stunning with its bright colour and trails up the hill for a lovely serene walk.

Perfectly located right next to Inari train station

“Amazing parade of tori gates”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We loved the winding path uphill covered by the bright orange tori gates and only wish we had the time to complete the 6km hike from the shrine.
