Owner description: One of Kyoto's most famous attractions, this temple was originally built in 1397 as a residence for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The structure was completely covered in gold leaf, earning it the name Golden Pavilion.

“Impressive”

Overall was a lovely park and Golden Pavilion was a glimmering beauty. BUT definitely not my favourite, especially during public holidays and sharing the experience with a number of screechy and pushy tour groups.

“Small Paradise”

A visit to the Pavilion and garden are a must on any itinerary to Japan. This will be on of the memories you take with you back home and won't forget in a hurry.

“Golden and Majestic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

The main attraction is the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji) which is so perfect for you to capture some good golden memories of your trip to Kyoto. Do take note, tripods are not allowed in the park. There is also an admission fee to the place.
Have a walk through the area, enjoy the scenery, have some picture taking but you may not need to spend more than 2 hours here so that you can carry on to other interesting places as well!
Have fun~

“Overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

I honestly think the Golden Pavilion is overrated... Admission is expensive and you can't go into any of the buildings here. The only thing you can do take pictures of the Golden Pavilion from the outside and tell people that you've been there before.
