“Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

This is one of those places you visit which somehow looks exactly how you expect but is just so much better in real life. I almost didn't go as we were short of time and had already seen a lot of temples but Kinkakuji really is with seeing. We were lucky to see it on a beautiful sunny day which helped but the pavilion and gardens are just lovely.

“Better than expected!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

Even though I was there mid-week of Golden Week, it was not crowded and I really really liked the whole place. Views are magnificent, gardens are manicured and the place has a relaxed air. Well worth a visit!

“My favourite sight in Japan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

Simply amazing. Photos do not do justice, you must see this thing in person.
Of all things I have seen in not only Kyoto but the rest of Japan, this is my personal #1.
The downside are the crowds, even in early morning. Try to visit when there is sun because it makes a difference.

“Awesome temple!!! must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This place is definitely on of the top 3 places to visit in Kyoto.

The structure is completely covered in gold leaf and the temple is covered by water in all directions. The reflection of the temple on water is excellent to see and is jaw dropping at dawn or dusk. You can't imagine the beauty of this place and you need to be there to see such a wonderful temple on earth.
This site is nicely maintained and a good place to take a lot of photos. The garden around the temple is awesome and well maintained.

A bus ride from Kyoto station will take you to this place. The bus ride is itself a good way to explore the Kyoto city. Happy exploring!!!

Cheers
Vijay

“Striking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Great place. Beautiful and great photo opportunities. Looks particularly good against a sunny, blue sky or surrounded by snow!

Pleasant walk around and through gardens after admiring it.
