“Friendly staff and good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Stayed here for 3 nights and arrived from Kyoto station with the Shinkansen. Kyoto only has 2 subway lines, but this hotel is on one of them which was only 3 stops away from the central station. So that was great when you travel with your bags or suitcases. When you arrive at Kyoto station, take the blue/green line to Karasuma Oike, take exit 3-1 and walk straight on for about 4 blocks. You'll find the hotel on your right hand sight. On the opposite of the large street, there's a 7/11.
The room was a bit dated (and so was the rest of the hotel) and not the best place we stayed in during our visit to Japan, but the staff was friendly and you can also buy a 2-day public transport pass at the reception. The hotel was also clean and the wifi was good.
Regarding breakfast: There's a great bakery (called Secret Bakery) just 2 blocks from the hotel. Just walk towards the entrance of the subway station and you'll find some flags and signs of the Bakery which is on the lower floor. Everything just costs 100 yen (including coffee and a variety of soda's) and it opens at 7am in the morning, so it's a great stop to have breakfast before you start your day.
You can also use your Tokyo Pasmo card here for the subway. So you don't have to bother about buying tickets for the subway. More information about the Pasmo card can be found in my Osaka review.
Would stay here again when visiting Kyoto.

The hotel is clean, super clean, the staff is courteous and helpful, they have maps and transportation time tables available for the guests, there is an Italian and a Japanese restaurant, subway is a block away and the Imperial Place (a must see) is a walking distance, The Gion district too, so there's plenty to look and walk around.

Room Tip: Internal rooms are quiet, don't know about street facing ones.

A brilliant hotel in central Kyoto, Within walking distance of Nijo castle and about 100m from Karasuma Oike Subway station (The station where Kyotos 2 subway lines intersect). The staff were very professional and friendly and spoke fluent English. The room I had was a little small by western standards but it was alot bigger than any hotel room I'v stayed in Tokyo. Will stay there again when I return.

Room Tip: The higher rooms have a decent view of the street below.

The room was clean and rather spacious for Japanese standards, the staff friendly, the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the subway and of shopping / restaurant areas. Wifi is available in the room.
The only thing that could be improved would be to provide coffee as well in the room. But apart from that, I would stay there again!

Helpful, english speaking staffs. Suggested timings to visit places around Kyoto. Rooms were clean and beds are comfortable. The air con was bit noisy initially and took almost an hour and half to calm down. And the rooms are not sound proof. In the morning can hear the voices on the hallway clearly. Apart from that, overall service was good.

I stayed there for one week this summer, in a single room. The room was very small, even by japanese standard. For 8000JPY per night (without breakfast), I was not particularly impressed: nothing went wrong, the room was clean, the staff friendly and english-speaking, but nothing to be extatic about neither. The japanese breakfast downstairs (750JPY) was very good and worth its price (if you can enjoy miso soup in the morning ;-)).

This hotel was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they spoke excellent English. The rooms were very clean and tidy. Also in a great location to getting around Kyoto. I recommend buying a bus pass each day you wish to travel some distance. It's a very cheap and easy way to travel, plus you can buy it at reception on your way out each morning.
