Stayed here for 4 nights, arriving from Kanazawa by JR train. We took the metro to Karasuma-Oike where had to catch the hotel shuttle bus. As it is common in Japan, one has to know which exit out of the many exists, to choose - I had to call the hotel to ask which exit to take - it's exit 1, but later found that there was a sign near exit 1, albeit a little hidden, showing the Kyoto Brighton Hotel shuttle.
The bus came on time and left on time - not a minute later, nor a minute earlier.
It was a short ride to the hotel, which was a bit hidden in what looks like a residential area. Surprisingly the hotel is actually very big considering the streets look rather small.
We arrived early so could not check in yet. Concierge, who spoke spot-on English (even with a proper English accent!) informed us that the Imperial Palace was open to the public (lucky us!), so we left our bags and walked to the Imperial Palace, which is about 5 mins walk.
After visiting the Imperial Palace, we walked back to the hotel and the room was ready.
Spacious room, lovely double bed, comfortable and hard bed, just as we like it. The lady showing us the room asked whether we needed wifi and we said yes, so she said she'll come back to bring us the airport wifi thing.
It wasn't a couple of minutes and someone rang the door bell and indeed the airport wifi thing arrived. She immediately plugged it in and wifi was working - super than our wifi here in London !!!
The office desk by the window is superb - this is where I planned our daily excursions, looking in maps and super-fast internet.
The shower is fantastic, the bath tub is marvelous. I also love the fact that the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner container are all big tubs, rather than the usual small containers that hotels normally give you.
Another plus is that the room is equipped with a proper coffee machine including the coffee tablets - this was a joy to have in the morning before we toodled off for the day. But that's not it, the drawers in the kitchenette area also had matcha tea, complimentary, and when we looked in the drawers, it had various different kind of tea sets, tea cans, glasses, different tea cups ! It was kitchen galore !!! - absolutely loved it; there's nothing better than coming back home from a whole day outing and having a nice cup of tea !
We did not eat at the hotel simply because we always prefer to eat out, it's cheaper and we like to find more local places.
Concierge will have details of all the restaurants and local eateries close by to the hotel. Everything is practically close by, even a seven eleven type store is also close by.
The shuttle bus always went on time so it was very reliable.
All in all, we had a lovely stay in this hotel. The room had everything we could ever needed for our stay. It was lovely to come home to after a long day out. It truly felt like a home away from home.
