“Service was exceptional”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

We stayed at the Brighton Hotel fro 3 nights during a recent visit to Japan. Our business hosts suggested this hotel and for us it was a very good choice.
We were accompanied during the day by our hosts for visits in the area but whenever we needed help or assistance the hotel personnel were very helpful and gracious. The rooms were large comfortable and the beds were great.
Breakfast at the hotel was very good and dinner in the Japanese Grill restaurant was excellent.
Location was perfect for tourist visitors.
We would stay here again if we visited Kyoto.

Dear Mr.Leztew
Thank you very much for your comments.
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the comfort of your room and the location of our hotel. Kyoto tends to get crowded during the Autumn season so we are glad to hear that you had a present stay. As you noticed we are close to many beautiful temples and one of famous world heritage Nijio castle and hope you had some chance to see them despite the fact you were in Kyoto for Business.
We are extremely happy to hear that you enjoyed our Japan Grill restaurant. Next time we invite you to enjoy a cocktail in the comfort of our Lounge which we recently renovated.

Best regards,
Room Sales Manager

First time in Kyoto and in Japan. Our hotel was selected by our hosts but this was a very good choice. Although situated outside the center the means of communication are so easy to use that one is never far from town. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Special mention to the reception desk and the concierge for their advice and help. The food was also excellent at the different restaurants 'special mention for the Japanese restaurant). The hotel is a bit on the expensive side but everything seems rather expensive in Japan.

The hotel was chosen for us by our Japanese hosts and we stayed there for three nights partially to offset the extreme cost of one night at the Tawaraya (see separate review). As a one-time resident of Brighton UK for more than 40 years I was amused by the link, and all the more so when I learned that the head of the Japanese group who built and still own and operate the hotel, chose the name personally when he was looking for a name with international resonance because of his own memories of good times spent in Brighton! Bless 'im...

The hotel is not now the newest international hotel in Kyoto where many big brands and smaller boutiques have opened more recently. However, the enormous central atrium was well ahead of it's time and the slightly dated style is not at all displeasing. The elevators are large and provide an open view of the atrium, but there are only two.... The rooms spacious and comfortable. We never ate in the hotel except for breakfast but that was more than generous and fresh.

The overall impression was that this was an extremely well managed hotel with a strong and loyal staff. The place was simply immaculate. The location was fairly convenient for the old town, the old Imperial Park, and many other places of interest and a regular shuttle bus is very efficient. And the hotel is good value - thanks to our friends for making the choice.

We spent 3 nights in the Kyoto Brighton Hotel recently ... this is a 4 star property and that is what you get ... the design is the 'courtyard style' - in other words the rooms surround a large atrium in which is located a bar, restaurant and publice areas.

Does anything stand out as exceptional - no. Very good service - very good, well equipped, well maintained rooms - all the facilities you expect - goof food - reasonable value for a 4 Star hotel ...

Downsides few although as at least one other has noted, there are only two lifts which means you will find yourself waiting, especially in the morning.

Would be return ... the acid test ... yes.

Uneventful hotel which needs some renovation. Eventhough nothing is really wrong, the 140 euro (without b/f) I paid is much too much considering the average location and the size of the room.
The hotel has a smoking spot close to the elevators which is quite disturbing ( for non-smokers). The hotel room itself also smelled of smoke, eventhough It was supposed to be a non-smoking room

Great rooms in this large hotel. Very helpful staff with a good amount who can speak English. Only 2 lifts mean a wait at peak times. Good breakfast & decent open area bar. Very comfortable beds & quiet rooms. Slightly outside the centre but only a 10 minute taxi ride. Right next to the Imperial Palace with a nice park on the doorstep. The outdoor pool was closed in November & the hotel has no spa - the only negative in this stay.

This is in fact, a great hotel. The four star rating reflects it's location, which is not centrally located. Had I read reviews on TA beforehand, I would have been better prepared for this aspect of the hotel!! The rooms are fabulous, the staff very friendly and the handy shuttle actually works...once you figure it out!! Subway system in Kyoto not as convenient as Tokyo so this makes getting around a bit more of a challenge. All in all, a great place to stay.
