I enjoyed this hotel very much! It was a little harder to find than I thought it would be, but that was because the Kyoto Train station (which is below the hotel) was much bigger than I expected. The hotel also doesn't seem to have a standard front entrance.
After a little confusion on my part I found the lobby and from there everything went smoothly. My bags were taken from me and I was directed to check-in where the clerk actually apologized for making me wait all of, maybe, 2 minutes. Check-in was efficient and within a few moments the bellhop was showing me the way to the room. She also apologized for the room being located so far from the elevator. (I love the customer service in Japan.)
The room was large and comfortable, with a very modern bath. Everything was super clean. The room was also quiet. The City view was not so great, but that's not the hotel's fault. (Hideous tower - can't miss it.)
I recommend getting the breakfast as part of the room price. There was a very nice buffet on the 15th floor with both western and Asian breakfast offerings.
The hotel was wonderfully situated, on top of all the transportation you need - trains, the subway, busses, and taxis, all right there. The post office is also a block away.
The train station has a number of little places to eat and shop. I had a wonderful experience with Japanese standards of customer service at the JR Isetan Department store which is also part of the Kyoto Station complex. Truly superb service all around.
Two things could have been better: (1) The Guest Services desk (which also had wonderfully gracious attendants) only had two internet terminals for guests' use - one of which was for western users. I suspect that in Japan, most people have their own laptops. (2) The restaurants at the hotel were hideously expensive - and not that great. I ended up eating at the sushi place a lot. It had the best food and you could order by the piece, which is good if you are not a big eater. The hostess and sushi chef came to know me well! Avoid the Le Temps restaurant.
But these are minor complaints. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Kyoto!
