I recently spent three nights at the Kyoto Granvia in a 'City View Superior Twin-Room' (920) on the 9th floor. It was quite a hike from the lift, down very long corridors. Our view was of the taxi-rank (!) and main road, with a snow-flecked mountain range visible on the horizon.
The room itself was very comfortable and spacious, finished in an attractive colour palette of brown/cream/mustard/black. Things were a little tatty/worn around the edges though. I'm amazed at how many people seem to spill things on hotel-room carpets.
The bathroom was lovely with under-floor heating and slate tiles. The shower enclosure was large (actually a wet-room) and included a bath.
I wasn't overly-enamoured of the location initially but grew to love it. Obviously it is handy for making day-trips via train or bus. There are a couple of Lawson's convenience stores close by, plus a great grocery shop next to the fire-station (about a 5-min walk from the Granvia). In the Porta underground-mall immediately outside Kyoto Station there is a whole 'zone' dedicated to restaurants. Fantastic.
There is so much going on in and around the Granvia/station area that it takes time to fathom it all out. By the time we left we'd just about sussed it :-)
