The hotel is situated across the road from the JR Kyoto Station. It has a drinks vending machine and a free ice machine on our floor. On the ground floor near the new wing are vending machines for hot snacks, etc. Room size is acceptable but bathroom is on the small side.

In the station are shops, restaurants, bakeries, pharmacists, convenience stores and even a McDonalds. The Japanese restaurants there are frequented by the commuters. It is worth a try as the price is quite reasonable. There are pictures or wax models of the various dishes available. One can then point and choose. Going across the railway line by the internal stairways will lead to a shopping and restaurant complex. The Isetan department store is located here with basement food outlets. On the top floors are some nice restaurants where they speak a bit of English. Many of the popular restaurants you have to queue up and they provide chairs for you sit while waiting.

Very convenient location. Our room was in the newer wing and it was very nice. The bathroom was small but very clean, the A/C worked great. Staff spoke quite a bit of English which was very helpful. Thought it was well worth $120/night.

Also, the staff were quite helpful. After sending our laundry down, we realized that my husband had included all of his socks in the laundry. The staff found our laundry and brought it back up to the room so we could extract some socks.

The hotel is very conveniently located - next to the train station and a quick walk to the bus stop. The room was on the small side and the bahtroom was also very small. But it was adequate for what we needed. There was a hotpot in the room for hot water which I thought was nice. We got a great rate for our stay. Overall, for the price, location, and convenience, I would recommend this place.

We had no choice but to stay at the New Miyako Hotel as part of the Sunrise Tours package (hotel and bullet train tickets) since that was the only option left. Both of us were quite wary of the hotel since (thankfully) we read a prior review on Tripadvisor which warned of bed bugs in the room. Once we checked in (which was a nightmare in it of itself), we immediately pulled the bed out to investigate and discovered several dead bed bugs near the base of the headboard and on the sheets.

Upon seeing the dead insects, we rushed downstairs to check Tripadvisor for another place and immediately booked Aranvert Hotel for that very night (which was only $120/night). Aranvert was located in a much better location (within walking distance to the Gion district) and extremely clean.

If you have no choice but to stay at the New Miyako, just make sure to thoroughly check the room for insects.
