My fiancé and I stayed at Tour Club for four nights in May of 2007. Keiji, the owner, is very sweet, and upon our arrival, advised us of a flea market that was happening at a nearby temple the following morning. Our room was very small (and the bathroom even smaller!) but it was very clean, and a good value for the price and location. Though, keep in mind that Tour Club is for “backpackers,” which often translates into rowdy youngsters who travel in packs, staying up until 5 a.m. Unfortunately, we no longer fall under the partying youngster category and suffered as a result. The setup is such that any noises made in the hallways and other rooms on the floor are clearly heard. We probably wouldn’t stay here again but I would strongly recommend it to the budget traveler.

This place is clean and well organized.

The room we had (double) was basic but very clean. It was not large but this didn't matter -The room size was noticed when we booked.

You can not find a better location with the money that we paid (about 3,000yen/person gets you a private room w/shower, AC and TV). Free wireless internet access was available as well.

Considering the price, highly recommended!

Location was good. Few minutes walk from JR Kyoto Station. Easy to find. Nearby bus stop too. The room was clean and small. Bathroom was also small. Good, decent budget rate.

But for some reason, it just didn't strike me as ooh ahh. Just a place to sleep and rest, but that is all we need, right!? So don't expect to much, the price is just right for expensive country!!

It was ok, the location is really close to the JR train station and the map they gave us was clear. The room was really small and the bathroom was as big as a telephone cabin. It was clean, the beds were not very comfortable and the maid won't make the beds the next day. Also you need to pay to use the Internet, 100 yen per 15 min.

We stayed in a double room at the Tour Club for five nights.

Value: Excellent value for money, possibly the cheapest double rooms in Kyoto.

Accommodation: The double rooms are, as is usual for Japan, pretty small with little in the way of storage space. The en-suite is small but perfectly adequate. The rooms have a rather institutional feel to them and there is no maid service. The kitchen/dining area is very welcoming although fairly small. There is also a nice Japanese living area where you can meet other guests. Internet access is available for a small fee.

Location: The Tour Club is located about 10 minutes walk from Kyoto JR station (and central bus station) in a quiet side street of two storey Japanese homes. There are numerous restaurants, coffee shops and convenience stores all within walking distance. This is a really good location for those wanting to explore both Kyoto and further afield due to its proximity to the railway station.

Overall I would recommend the Tour Club as a great value base for exploring Kyoto and the surrounding region. The staff are very helpful and speak excellent English while the self catering facilities are great for saving money. However, if you like any of the trappings of luxury then I would probably recommend you look elsewhere.
