Kyoto Tokyu was definitely a nice place to stay. From the moment you walk in the door, you know it's a nice hotel. They have a beautiful lobby and it is pristine and welcoming. The rooms are equally inviting. They are quite spacious (comparing to my room in Tokyo). Plenty of closet space and a safe if you want to lock things up. The beds were firm, but comfortable.
The customer service was a little lacking however. I am comparing it to the impeccable service we received while in Tokyo. The staff was not as strong in speaking English so it was a little difficult to communicate with them, especially when asking for recommendations on where to eat or find something nearby. Don't rely on that if you don't speak Japanese. The worst part for me was when I had a package delivered from my hotel in Tokyo (I left a few clothes there and they had it shipped to this hotel), they delivered my package to the wrong room. Thankfully my friends were in the next room and they took the package, but I was a little frustrated about that. They even called my room and left me a message that the package was there and they would bring it up, but then delivered it to the room next door.
The restaurant in the hotel looks very nice but it was very pricey, even for breakfast. There is a restaurant across the street that resembles a Denny's or equivalent that is a much cheaper option for breakfast if you're looking to save some money.
The location was pretty decent as we took taxis often from either the train station or the Gion area and it was never more than 800 Yen or so (depending on the starting fare w/the taxi as they weren't always the same).
All in all, a very comfortable stay in Kyoto if you can afford it.
