The Yumiyakomachi is a quaint Japanese guesthouse with basic and thoughtful amenities. First off the location is fantastic - a 10 minute walk to the subway, lots of restaurants nearby and some of Kyoto's best sights are in walking distance (20 min walk). Rico, the owner of the guesthouse has strict house rules regarding noise and this is to the benefit of everyone living there, so if you are looking for a guesthouse with more freedom to talk as loud as you want or if you have young children this may not be the place for you. Rico is friendly and helpful and seems genuinely interested in getting to know you. It was such a pleasure getting to know her!
The downside, if you can call it a downside, is that there is only one shower in the entire guesthouse so sometimes you have to wait for the shower to be avaliable. But this wasn't a very big problem when we visited, we hardly had to wait and we knew what we were signing up for. The bathrooms and shower facility was always clean and comfortable.
The room we got was the japanese tatami mat room, it was so incredibly comfortable! Sleeping on a futon takes some getting used to, but after you sleep on it for a night or two you will love it!
It was a really comfortable room, with robes, lots of light and two nice big futons. Green tea was refilled everyday. I will definitely stay here again.
