“The perfect spot for exploring Kyoto from a comfortable and character home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013 via mobile

Yumiya is so easy to explore from- an easy walk to the best shopping, eating and Geisha spotting areas and a close walk to all the main bus routes. The house is beautiful and has true Japanese character, Rico is super helpful (and speaks great English) and our room was fabulous- upstairs Japanese style with plenty of space.
Thoroughly recommend as a place to stay in the super city Kyoto.

GREAT host Mrs. Rico is so helpful and speeks very grood english, the greeting is the best we have ever seen....the guest house is authentic japanese traditionnal old house of 100 years so in winter do not expect to be over heated....insulation in those times is not very efficient so in cold months you can stay a few days but not much more you will feel in camping ;D. but great place to visit for a short stay, convenient also located 10 minutes from main train station, in quiet neighborhood and 10 minutes from beautiful Gion quarter, a must if you visit Kyoto. Enjoy, i would definetely recommend this good address although price a bit high... Enjoy!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

This riokan has spacious & clean rooms. It is indeed a beautiful typical japanese house. Location is good too and free wifi is available everywhere in the house. Having said that, there is only one shower in the whole house (I believe there were 4 or 5 bedrooms), is very cold inside (sometimes it was colder inside that it actually was outside & freezing in the bathroom), there is a curfew (11,30pm), and it was quite expensive. The owner is ok (I should say she spoke good english), however, I didn't get many information when I asked her about places, opening times, etc. My general conclusion by reading other comments from other websites is that this property is overrated. It is a nice house, but in general is too expensive for what you get. Kyoto has many other riokans so I would probably try another one...
