“Excellent Value Apartment Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

I stayed here on my own and was very impressed by the value of this hotel. The lobby area and the rooms themselves felt like a lot like a 5 star boutique hotel. For the amount you pay per night the room sizes are generous and well equipped. My standard room included a kitchenette which made it easy to buy ingredients at the markets and bring them back to cook. The bed was extremely comfortable and the furnishings tasteful. Staff were very helpful especially with recommending where to hire bikes and booking restaurants. The hotel also provide secure bike storage. Location wise, this hotel was removed from central Kyoto, but is still within reasonable walking distance to the city's major sites. I highly recommend this hotel.

This is the second time we have stayed at Citadines Karasuma-Gojo as it has so much going for it. Not far from the JR Kyoto station. Good location near Metro and bus.

There is a 7 Eleven straight across the street and a supermarket one block away. Restaurants in all directions. Perfect location as it is so easy to get to all the sights from here. A bit quieter than in the middle of the busy shopping districts so lets you take a breather from sightseeing in Kyoto.

Apartments are modern, clean, spacious and well appointed. We bought some meals from the 7 Eleven and heated them in the microwave. Bought ingredients for bacon, eggs, tomato, mushroom and toast and cooked them ourselves for breakfast. Used local restaurants nearby at night as well. All had decent meals at a modest price.

Hotel staff were very accommodating and we were able to check in early after arriving late morning by train from Kobe. All interactions with staff were professional.

Extra bonus is having a coin laundry in the basement.

We have stayed at a couple of Citadines apart hotels in Asia and they always deliver quality service and comfortable beds. You should not be disappointed if you choose to stay here.

Fantastic location, within walking distance from Kyoto Central Station, or 1 stop away by the Metro to Gojo station. Conveniently located in relation to various attractions, and surrounded by some food outlets. There is a supermarket right opposite the hotel, and the hotel staff are really helpful in providing you directions and assistance where necessary. Hotel rooms are not huge, nor are they tiny, perfectly adequate size for two people over a short stay.

Only complaint I could possibly make is that the breakfast was a little lacking in variety. But really for a hotel of this size, it's not surprising, and you can simply step out to Mcdonalds or the supermarket which are all of 30 seconds away!

We stayed at the Citadenes Karasuma-Gojo Kyoto for 5 days. The rooms were clean and roomy for Japan considering we spent one night in a ryoken for the experience. The location of the hotel was handy above Gojo subway line and walking distance to shops and plenty of resteraunts. The staff were fantastic and we were treated to a night expedition into town with several of the staff and manager for the July festival in town with several hundred thousand people and we did not lose anyone. They also provided water and cold towels as it was so hot.

Room Tip: There was a breakfast service which we did not utilise as there were plenty of resteraunts around.

Citadines rooms are actually small apartments. That means that the rooms are a lot larger than average business hotels and fitted with a kitchenette. Yet the price at around 10.000 yen is very good value indeed. Very friendly and efficient staff, that speak good English. The appartments are serviced so no worries about making the bed and daily clean towels. Breakfast is ok, a mix of Japanese and continental items and is extra. Rooms are spotlessly clean - as everywhere in Japan - and well furnished. Free secure wifi in the room (not common in Japan) and flat screen tv with some foreign channels (BBC, CNN). Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: The hotel is on a busy road, so rooms at the back should be more quiet

Excellent value for money (100 euros per night for our family of 2 adults & 2 children of 9 & 11)
Athough I booked it as such for 2 ad & 2kids, Studio twin is not meant for a family, but hotel accepted us to stay in the twin studio, instead of paying a second room (out of our budget !) the twin studio does NOT have the sofabed as sown on most web pictures !! Additional Sofabed available only in Premier studios.
Great location, we stayed 5 nights in July at the time of the Gion Matsuri festival (15-17 july) all events, cars free streets food stalls... right next door,...we did most of our walks on footh but metro station just in front of the aparthotel, and one stop away from main kyoto train station.
Coin laundry in the basement of hotel : very convenient when travelling many weeks with children. As we had the kitchenette, we preferd to enjoy breakfast in the studio, hence did not tested the breakfast proposed by hotel. Maybe the only little point for improvement could be the Entrance hall, which is indeed design and "zen" but actually very dark....

Room Tip: Twin studios do not have the sofabed shown on pictures of booking sites, you need the select the pre...

Stayed in this apartment-style hotel in Kyoto for 3 nights with my wife, two teenage children, and my parents. We thought it was an outstanding value. Including the service fee, charge for a 2nd person, and tax, we paid $144 per night per room. The rooms have either two twin beds (which our 14 and 16 year old boys said were large enough and comfortable) or a real king size bed, a refrigerator, microwave, single burner range, kitchen sink, cutlery, cooking utensils, electric teapot, a desk, three chairs, coffee table etc.. Free wired and wireless internet. Daily housekeeping is included. For Japan and the price, the rooms were a good size. They were quiet, extremely clean (like everything in Japan), and had amazing AC. Our room had a window to a small concrete atrium or alley, but my parents and kids’ rooms looked out to the street. The staff spoke English pretty well and were very helpful. The hotel is less than a block from the #1 exit of the Gojo subway station, which is one stop north of Kyoto Station. Very convenient when taking the Shinkansen, although there were areas in the Gojo station where we had to carry our luggage up and down stairs with no apparent escalator or elevator. There are a 7-11, a couple of restaurants, a small grocery store, and a 100 Yen store right near the hotel. I believe there is a coin operated laundry somewhere in the hotel, but we did not use it. There are not really any tourist attractions near the hotel, but its proximity to the subway makes sightseeing very easy. Given the price and the functionality of the rooms, we will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Only some of the rooms have a view of the street. We found it useful for determining whether it was...
