“Small, not crowded!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Japan has so many beautiful gardens, and so many of them are so crowded too. The great thing about Murin-an was that we basically had the place to ourselves! Its on the smaller side of gardens but makes up for this by being hidden away and peaceful. I loved not being pushed and rushed by other tourists. Its a great place to take a break, sit and just relax.

“A beautiful garden, historic place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Among so many places to visit in this wonderful city, we were surprised to find this "hidden" gem. A garden landscaped by a famous master for an art-loving shogun. The "New-York appartment" style brick building with original glass windows, build over a hundered years ago, has seen one of historic meetings where the war against Russia was decided - 4 people in 2 hours took this fateful decision. The matcha served was taking some of the heavy feelings away. A place to visit during November too - for the maple leaves contrasting with the bright green moss.
