The transportation fare is quite expensive in Japan like England. So whenever I visit Kinki province, I used to buy 3 days metro pass. But JR pass is also practical and very helpful if you combine city bus pass. It is allowed for you to use high speed train, so called "shinkansen" and national train. When I landed the Kinki airport and went straight to the Osaka station and there buy JR pass. If you lose, you cannot reissue for the trip again. you have to keep it with you all the time, with passport too. Since I was hanging around several cities in Kinki area, it was worth it. if you stay only couple of cites, better to buy 3 or 5 days metro pass in Kinki.
