“Drop in as you will be passing by”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

You will see the entrance (a brightly coloured Buddhist style rather than Tori) to this shrine while walking around the Gion area. It is the red gate you will see while walking along Shijo-Dori street.

There are some nice shrine buildings to see, and as we visited close to New Years eve there were many stalls setting up for the festivities. From the site you can walk through Maruyama-kien park and towards Chion-in temple complex, which is a must see. All of this will easily take up a whole afternoon.

“Yasaka Shrine, Maruyama Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2011 via mobile

We spent at least 3 hours here at Yasaka Shrine/ Maruyama Park. There are many ponds, bridges, gates, halls, shrines and temples. Also, there is a huge bell. We really enjoyed this park.

“Centrally located shrine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

This shrine was quiet and peaceful while we visited. It is not a must-see in any way, but since you are likely to walk by it during sightseeing in Higashiyama or Gion, you might as well stop by.

“Peaceful shrine. Great at night.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2011

This shrine is not flash or really special compared to others. Its peaceful and has some nice lanterns in the centre. It's great at night, especially later when not many people are there. I think the best part of it and the reason you should go is that its inbetween Gion and Maruyama -koen. Both places you should see. See pics (1 of them is taken at a different time).
