Never been to Kyoto before , will definitely return , but never to this restaurant
The food was tasty , the service very pleasant
But the after taste , unfortunate
Despite the recommendation from Kyoto Visitors Guide of good value , double portions and reasonably priced wine it's actually bad value , double priced and ordinary wine at extortionate cost . KVG also offered a 10% reduction on mention .
The cheapest wine is 35% more than advertised and about the worst we tasted in Japan .
The menu is ordinary Italian pizza and pasta ; straight forward but decent
My problem ,however, was the bill ; charged twice for wine - at Y2000 not Y1400
and many extra dishes, that I'm sure are delicious, but, we never ate them . Unfortunately my Kanjii is zero so I don't even understand what we supposedly ate . There were only two or three groups of people eating in the restaurant at the same time, and they were all Japanese, no-one else had ordered wine so there was no excuse for the managers 'mistakes'. Challenging the bill of approximately 100% extra than we expected the manager blamed the waitress' incompetence ( we thought her very sweet and helpful ) said it was simply an overcharge on wine ( 2 instead of 1 ) and told us that we had ,in fact, eaten these fictional extra 4 dishes - so why was I still hungry ? and now angry . After a long discussion the overcharges were subtracted. When we mentioned again the 10% discount we were presented with a third bill which showed prices at 110%, therefore we supposedly had already recieved a discount . Too exhausted to argue further we paid and resolved instead to review this restaurant and expose its underhand overcharges . A much better option ,around the corner, is Tadg's Irish bar with welcoming hosts, great food and an excellent view of the river and surrounds.
