“Fabulous stay - book it now!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

My husband and I, along with friends stayed at Ohanabo for 3 nights in June 2013. We consider ourselves very lucky to have been able to stay here. The staff were absolutely fabulous, so helpful and friendly. The location perfect as it is only 5-10 mins walk from the train/bus station. Along the way to Ohanabo from the train station there are small convenience stores and many restaurants - loved this. The rooms are very clean, spacious and comfortable. I couldn't recommend this place enough!!
Thank you so much Ohanabo!

Room Tip: My husband and I stayed in room 201 and it was fabulous. If you can, try and get this room as it has...

We are a family of 4 and stayed at Ohanabo for three nights, we also had the breakfast and dinner one night. This was our favorite place that we stayed in Japan. The staff are amazing and nice and so helpful. The Ryokan was so clean, spotless. Food was amazing and the experience was authentic. At first I thought that they were expensive, but they aren't and it is worth every penny!

We stayed 2 nights here in March 2013, the location is great, only 5-10 mins walk from the Kyoto train station (also a shopping complex) which is also a terminal for buses. There are restaurants and convenience stores within seconds of the Ryokan. The Ohanabo itself is also very pretty, upon arrival we were welcomed by the warmest regards, great service, no problem communicating in English. We were serviced tea in our rooms each evening when we came back, the futons were folded up for us while we were downstairs having breakfast and is laid out again in the evening upon our arrival back at the Ryokan. They did all this fitted around our schedule without disturbing us.

The breakfast is also very delicious with many small dishes, and I particularly like the traditional bath robes supplied, with a choice of 2 colours. All in all a great Ryokan experience.

Room Tip: We were on the 1st floor, could hear upstairs so maybe the top floor is quieter

The staff was so friendly and happy to have us and had several helpful tips on how to get around and the best route to take. We were also able to purchase bus passes in the lobby which was very helpful. We had a few questions about the different attractions in Kyoto and the hotel staff looked online for us right away and was able to answer our questions. The dinner was beautiful and delicious and worth the price of the stay. The ryokan also provided yukatas for us to wear while we were there which made us want to buy our own. It was in an accessible location, close to the train station and bus stop. It was definitely the best place we stayed while in Japan.

Room Tip: We paid a bit extra and was able to get our own private bathroom. Definitely worth it because I thin...

We loved our time at Ohanabo. The staff was amazing and they all speak english very well. I would recommend this ryokan to everybody however I think that if you can only afford 1 night to experience a ryokan or if you are a newbie in the ryokan rules/differences from a standard hotel this is one of the best places you can stay. Main reasons are the good english and also the more relaxed approach of the staff, so I would feel very relaxed to ask questions if I wasn't sure in this ryokan.
The room was good, bed very comfy. What really stood out for us was the food!!! Dinner was huge and very very tasty. Breakfast, the same. Amazing, really!

From the minute you arrive you are treated like family, the staff are so welcoming and only too happy to provide directions and information on the nearby tourist attractions. The traditional japanese breakfast was too beautiful to eat, each morning brought a different taste of japan. I would urge anyone travelling to Japan to stay in a traditional Ryokan better still at Ohanabo!

We indulged ourselves with a stay at ohanabo and never regretted the price we paid. Service was the best we encountered in Japan and the daily breakfasts & dinners were incomparable. We opted for kaiseki the first night and shabu shabu the second. They were kind enough to offer 2 kinds of meats because some of us had dietary restrictions with beef!

We were served by mikako-chan, ayako-chan and yu-chan during our stay and these three never failed to bring a smile to our faces with their contagious cheerfulness throughout the day and night. They served us with such genuineness and sincerity we looked forward to going home every day even if it meant shortening the itinerary.

We slept in the family room for 6 people which had a great view of cherry blossoms across the road. The room was spacious, immaculately clean and always ready when we arrived home. sheets and towels were washed everyday.

The public bath had excellent decor and provided all essentials except conditioner. Bathing was always so pleasant, we didn't use the bathroom in our room but always came here instead.

They even offered to place our laundry in the dryer as we were not in time to wait for it to be done. We came home to find that the clothes were tidily folded as well!

we ordered sake with our meals and at first, were worried they were going to cost a bomb but eventually came to a very reasonable price. The sake was of good quality.

An extremely short walk of 5 minutes to Kyoto station with convenience store along the way.

They attended to our every need and even went the extra mile. Highly recommended.
