It would be hard to fault my stay at this hotel considering the price. The deluxe room we had was large, spotless and gave great views of the Kyoto tower and hills beyond. The bathroom had an older feel about it but had bath and separate shower and had everything you would need.
One of our favourite things was the breakfast, the selection was very comprehensive, good quality and fresh. The eggs were some of the best I have had.
Our room gave us Granvia lounge access, we went into the lounge once but did not take to it. The young lady in there was very polite and attentive but it was a bit of a non-entity. A few jugs of fruit juice, tea, coffee and some rice crackers. There was not even any cans of coke etc that you could help yourself to.
Lastly the location of the hotel is brilliant, however after a long flight we ended up wandering around aimlessly for a good twenty minutes in the shopping areas under and next to the hotel in order to find it. Better sign posting in some areas of how to find the hotel would be a bonus for weary travellers.

We stayed at Hotel Granvia for 5 nights in March 2013. We were given standard rooms facing the tracks. It had a nice view of the surrounding area. We did hear a bit of train noise, mostly the jingles. We had a room with two single beds. It was spacious, nicely furnished and a very large bathroom (tub and shower area). They provide plush slippers for you to use or take home. We went to the restaurant for breakfast buffet. It was really great. Lots of different stations with Japanese food (miso soup, tofu, pickled vegetables, seaweed salad) and western food (scrambled eggs, French toast, sausages), along with many juices, health shakes and coffee/tea. The restaurant got a bit crowded as the morning went out.

The best part about the hotel is its location. The Kyoto train station is full of restaurants, convenience stores and shops, but is also connected to a few "malls" with more restaurants and shopping. I went shopping a few evenings, but never did see everything. Shopping malls include Portia, the Cube. From the station, you can take the subway (not covered by JR pass) or hail a taxi to visit other parts of Kyoto. It was very convenient.

Room Tip: Room facing away from train tracks are quieter. Also, ask if you can be upgraded to a superior room.

We stayed at Hotel Granvia for 5 nights on our trip through Japan. This hotel was amazing, the staff was extremely friendly and everyone greeted us every time we passed by. We had a King sized bed in our room, very clean and spacious. There were many amenities the provided every day from toothbrushes to body lotions, they even had free house slippers!

I'd have to say the best part of this hotel was the location. You just can't beat being attached to Kyoto Station (JR). Walk out of your hotel down the escalators and catch a train to anywhere!
There were 3 shopping centers right in Kyoto station located directly below and attached to the hotel. The Cube, Isetan, and Porta. So many food options as well as general shopping. You just can't beat it.

After a long day of exploring Kyoto or nearby towns to just hop off the train and be at your hotel's doorstep is priceless. It makes it so much easier to explore and to stop off at your room for a quick change of clothes before going out for the night.

Would recommend this hotel for any type of visit in or near the Kyoto area.

Room Tip: Ask for Kyoto Tower view on high floor

We have just spent 4 days at the Hotel Granvia, Kyoto, while attending a conference. The experiences reflected in others' reviews of this hotel were verified during our stay. While it is not near the centre of the shopping and restaurant district, this hotel is just so incredibly convenient in its location above the train stations for JR rail and the local subway. The department stores and numerous restaurants in the complex were also very handy.
We had rooms on the 15th floor which were spacious, well appointed and very comfortable indeed. The bathrooms were huge, with walk-in shower and bath facilities.
Even more impressive was the buffet breakfast with an extensive choice of Japanese and Western cuisine and great coffee.
My only disappointment was that the internet service was often unreliable in the evening peak use period with frequent loss of connection. Other times of the day were fine.
Staff were always friendly and helpful. The facilities of the gymnasium, sauna, spa and pool were of a high standard.
I would certainly recommend this hotel and stay there again next time we visit Kyoto.

Room Tip: Get a room on level 14 or 15. There is an Executive lounge which is disappointing (only coffee and...

We stayed at the Hotel Granvia Kyoto on our second visit to Kyoto. First time we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto but as soon as we saw the hotel in the train station, we'd wished we'd stayed at the Granvia. Second trip, we booked the Granvia but during our stay, we missed the Hyatt. It just had a different vibe not being situated in a busy train station/mall.

The Granvia Kyoto is a great hotel, you can't go wrong staying there. The staff are so polite and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable albeit a bit small. Our room had great view of the trains coming and going. If you have kids (or a husband) who love trains- get a room with a view of Kyoto station. We had no problem with noise from the trains and I'm a very light sleeper.

The location is super convenient, a quick walk to get on a train or ride up the gigantic elevator for a bunch of great restaurants. One level has just ramen! Only downside is that you can't really get away from the hustle and bustle of the location. That's when I really missed the Hyatt Regency Kyoto. There seemed to be a mellower pace. We grumbled about the cost of taking a cab to the train station but for some, it might be worth the trade off if you're looking for a more relaxing trip. If convenient location is more important, then the Granvia Kyoto is perfect.

When booking, it's helpful to check the Granvia Kyoto's website to see if the dates you want to stay are subject to many minimum stay requirements. Sometimes sites like Expedia will just say there aren't rooms available, but it could just be that you can't book reservation checking out on that specific day.

My family and I visited Kyoto and stayed in Hotel Granvia Kyoto for 3 nights. Coming off from the Shinkansen (bullet train), the location of Hotel Granvia within the Kyoto Station is very convenient. We had 2 rooms - one with a king size bed and the other with a queen size bed. Both were clean, spacious, facilities were adequate and they have free wifi in the rooms. My family enjoyed visiting the complimentary Guest Lounge on the 15th floor, where they have real fruit juices and coffee is superb. The staff at the Guest Lounge were very helpful especially with our travel needs. One person who stood out was Shogo Kawabata, Asst. Chief Concierge in the Guest Lounge. Shogo was patient, a very good listener, friendly and helpful in answering all our questions about our cultural questions. Since we happen to be in Kyoto on a rainy day, he was able to recommend to us alternative travel plans that can be enjoyed indoors. All these, makes our Kyoto even more meaningful and enjoyable. Thank you very much!

The Hotel Granvia, conveniently, situated in the JR train station with easy access to buses and the Kyoto subway, is a very nice hotel. The room was spacious, well-serviced. and the front desk staff were very courteous. The concierge desk was manned by several people during operating hours. The concierge were very knowledgeable, friendly and eager to be of assistance. We did not eat in the hotel, but the café seemed popular. There are plenty of coffee shops, retail outlets and eateries in and around the station. There is an Isetan department store with a great food hall in the station and a unique rooftop garden. Highly recommend the Hotel Granvia - a five-star experience in a great location and surprisingly quiet given the proximity of trains.
