We stayed here for 1 night in June 08. We searched around for a place to say on Miyajima and were surprised as how expensive everything was. Most Ryokans were fully booked so we were offered this as our 3rd choice. Booked via Japanese Guesthouses website [--], which was friendly and helpful.
The room was quite disappointing, all very old and basic yet clean and spacious. Our room though had a great view of the famous floating shrine. The dinner was served downstairs in the restaurant which was ok. The transport service from the ferry was fantastic and the staff was as usually in Japan extreme friendly and helpful.
If you are looking for a traditional Ryokan experience look further and be prepared to pay more, however if you are only staying 1 night, which is enough to explore Miyajima (and it is worth it) this Hotel is absolutly fine. We paid around 41000JPY for room, breakfast (Japanese) and dinner (2 people).

“Modern Ryokan”

We stayed here for 1 night in May. We booked via Japanese Guesthouses website (good service)

This is a modern Ryokan, so don't stay here if you want a real Ryokan experience.

The pick-up/drop off service from the ferry was great. The room was large and had a great view towards the sea/Torii

We were disappointed to realise that we would be eating in the dining room, rather than our rooms. I don't think we had fully realised what the differences are with a modern vs traditional Ryokan. The food was great however. And the staff who attended us were very friendly.

Miyajima itself is a wonderful place. A highlight of our stay in Japan. It is well worth it to stay on the island a night to experience it without the hordes of sightseers.

Bear in mind that you should select a hotel/ryokan that serves dinner as most of the restaurants are lunch only.
