Stayed in this hotel for the second time: first time was in 2006. The hotel was not changed: quick checkin service, rooms were of decent size, twin beds were comfortable. Bathroom amenities were plenty. Mayor plus: free breakfast (they have added Western style breakfast to the Japanese style since last time. It is walking distance to the shopping streets and Peace Memorial Park.

I've stayed at a few Toyoko Inns and they are all great. They've all got a fairly good location, they come with breakfast and their staff have a reasonable command of english (enough for simple communication anyway).

The rooms are small of course but its big enough for me and there's enough space that you don't feel claustrophobic. The bed is comfortable, there's a tv, airconditioning and a small fridge. The bathroom is a bit small for my liking but well you can't have everything, its decent enough for the budget price that you're paying. Also the whole hotel and the rooms are very clean.

As for the location of Toyoko Heiwa Odori, it was okay. It was convenient but not very, very convenient, its a fair bit to walk to either the memorial or to the shopping area. Maybe 15 mins? I didn't time it but I remember walking quite a bit. And you know what? This is probably a short walk for some people anyway.

Also, they've got a shuttle car that drives you to Hiroshima Train Station every half an hour (I can't remember the intervals but quite frequent). I found this very convenient because the station really is quite far and when we left Hiroshima it was raining heavily, so thank goodness for this shuttle car! Also I guess I should mention that getting from Hiroshima station to the hotel can be complicated if visiting Hiroshima for the first time (unless you take a taxi of course). You've got to take a street car to a stop (can't remember which) and figure out how to pay the street car because you don't pay till you get off! Then you gotta walk another 15 mins to the hotel.

Anyway I'm not complaining, just stating what I went through. Great hotel, I loved it.

Toyoko Inn is basically the Holiday Inn or what have you of Japan, it tries to offer business and budget travelers with uniform, clean locations. The hotels are generally located within a 10 minute walk of a station or major attraction and they all have exactly the same styling and architecture. They are not remarkable hotels, but for the price and location, Toyoko Inn is pretty hard to beat all over Japan. The Hiroshima one in particular is nice since it's in walking distance to the Peace Park, Hondori (main shopping area), and Hiroshima's redlight/entertainment district.

The rooms are tiny, but that is typical Japan; however, they are newly furnished and very clean. Ladies get a special bath set with nail polish remover, a face mask, and some other amenities. If you reserve off their website, you also get your choice of a website only gift which is honestly usually pairs of poor quality socks, notepads, or pens. The room rate also includes breakfast (which I have never eaten and cannot comment on) of miso soup and riceballs.

The staff is friendly and will do their best to help you. There is also free internet on their lobby computers and broadband in your room if your brought your laptop.

A well located hotel on the road leading down to the peace park.
Small (as virtually all Japaese Hotels) but very clean and comfortable. Room has desk, coffee table and 2 chairs.
Also get the usual yakuta and slippers

Free breakfast included which was the usual, rice, miso soup and seaweed
Also get free 'ladies set' various smellies, cotton buds etc and an extra free gift. I chose a nice little reading torch. Other options included a pair of sock or what looked like a towl.

Free internet access in the lobby, although its difficult getting round the Japanese computer keyboard. For those with their own laptop, there is also free internet access in every room

7 minutes walk from Ebisu tram station
The hotel also runs a free taxi service to the trainstation.
I only found this out leaving the hotel, but I assume that if you contact the hotel from the station they can pick you up.
