Our travels took us to Hiroshima, Japan in the early July of 2008... We wanted to stay at WFC which we've booked prior to our departure from Canada. Upon our late arrival to Hiroshima, Kent and Sarah were waiting for us. We were exhausted from climbing Mount Fuji the same day and Kent ensured we get a good rest. It is hard not to replicate the previous reviews but the stay at WFC was truly memorable and all about the 'little things' that made it unique.

* Somebody waiting for you when you tired and dirty beyond imagination, dreaming of shower and good night sleep
* Room named Momiji (Maple)
* Kent taking our 5 year old son,Jack to the park at 6 am
* Sarah's amazing breakfast
* Meeting Hibakusha (arranged by Kent)
* Peace Park guided tour with Hibakusha (kind Chizuko)
* Sharing stories with other guests over morning breakfast
* Kent and Sarah educating us on Japanese culture.

Staying at WFC is one of the kind and not to be missed when visiting Hiroshima.

Thank you Kent and Sarah

“stay here if in hiroshima!!”

if you go to hiroshima, you need to stay here. Kent and Sarah, the two volunteers, were fantastic! they were so helpful and accomodating for our group of 14 people. the breakfast they prepared was great and they have a wealth of information.

included in the price was a guided tour of the peace memorial park and museum and a talk with a survivor of the atomic bomb. the experience was incredible and these two did everything to make sure we felt at home.

the accomodations itself was in a japanese style house. 5 people slept in the main room, 4 upstairs, and 3 in the house next door. there are two showers to use. i can see how some people may not like the accomodations vs. staying in a hotel, but given all the extras you get, from Kent and Sarah help, to the tour to hearing the survivor speak, I'd strongly recommend anyone to stay here.

This was one of the hidden treasurers of our trip to Japan! We spent 2 nights there in mid-May and were extremely impressed with the hospitality. Kent and Sarah, the 2 volunteers, were just lovely and so helpful! For example, Kent guided us in a pouring rain our first day to the Peace Park for an interview with a survivor. They also gave us the office to talk with our son on his birthday. Little things that make a big difference. There are restaurants all around the area. The rooms are in traditional Japanese style and very roomy and cozy. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. But the really special thing about WFC is meeting people from different countries. This is a small place and you eat breakfast together, which makes it feel like more of a community. We met people from Germany, France, England, NYC via India, and California during our 2 nights there. If you are looking for something special and unique....not your cookie cutter hotel room.......this is the place in Hiroshima. We will defiinitely use this again when we return!

“welcoming atmosphere”

Kent and Sarah (the volunteers running the WFC until May, 2009) are welcoming, and went to great lengths to make us feel at home. Kent gave excellent tourist information. Breakfasts are large, with cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, toast, juice, coffee or tea. There are several small restaurants within easy walking distance from the WFC, serving tasty Japanese meals from friendly waitstaff. The WFC is a traditional Japanese home, with futons on tatami mats, and is located in a quiet residential community. They have shared bathroom facilities.... 2 toilets and 1 shower for the 4 guest rooms. Everything was very clean. The WFC arranged Peace Park tour and Hibakusha story were profoundly moving and shouldn't be missed. Religion and politics are not disucssed at the WFC unless you want to discuss them. The atmosphere is easy going.

Our family stayed at the WFC in November 2007. I emailed the reservation via their website and everything went perfect. Be sure to download the directions. Follow them without interpretation. The Center has Internet access, great food, clean room and beds. What more can you ask for? I would recommend the WFC as a place to stay to anyone.
