“Picturesque monument”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We then saw the cenotaph. We were looking for an ‘Aussie style’ one, but it was actually a curved dome-like one, which houses the names of those who were victims of the A-bomb. Every year, hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) who have died are added on 6 August, the anniversary of Hiroshima’s bombing. The whole area was architecturally designed so the cenotaph, the flame of peace (which will only be extinguished when there are no more atomic bombs in the world) and the A-Bomb Dome all line up. The inscription says, “Let all the souls here rest in peace; for we shall not repeat the evil”.

“A respectful place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

As you go around the peace park a few minutes contemplation at this site is good. It is clearly held in high esteem by the locals who take time in passing to offer a prayer and often flowers.

“Well Done”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Well worth stopping off here for a few minutes between the Dome & Museum. Nicely done memorial, with locals constantly placing flowers, and paying their respects.

“Beautiful monument”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

The thought and detail which has gone into this monument is very impressive. The way the buildings and structures line up together when looking through this from either end of the park, is very symbolic and beautiful.
It's quite a solemn area, with many visitors there to lay flowers and pray for those people who died. A place for quiet reflection.

“One memorial for the 80,000 that perished on that infamous day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

Its hard to fathom the consequence of the A-bomb detonation here. 80k lives incinerated in a split second. Basically this is a substitute for 80,000 headstones. Sad tone in an otherwise super-fun and interesting trip to Japan. Personally I had one distant young cousin that died from the blast.
