“Beautiful hotel marred somewhat by smallish room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Styllish elegant hotel in a very good location, our room had a very impressive view. The huge department store next door also impressed. Had to ask for softer pillows which arrived almost as I requested them. The room was I think small although all other hotel rooms encountered on this trip were about the same size.

Warning- Japan is not a smoke free zone, although significant changes are being made.
A non-smoking booth next to a smoking one at a restaurant and a non-smoking room on a smoking floor does not work, especially at a temperature of about 26 'it is now 'winter' degrees. These comments are general and do not apply to this hotel.

“Modern hotel at Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

For worst of reasons, Hiroshima is on must-visit of every visitor to Japan.

Recently we spent one night at this hotel, and would like to highlight that it is a good modern hotel near to the Peace Museum.. we were given a triple room on the 21st floor, and the night view from the window was fantastic. More elegant than its sister concern in Kyoto, it is closer to the peace park, however it is some 10 min taxi ride away from the station & there was no free shuttle , like it was there in Kyoto. Skip the pricey breakfast, as this is within walking distance of great shopping area, which may be a good option in the evening after a sorrowful visit to the peace museum. We took tram to Miyajimaguchi for the ferry to the island..the tram station is just behind A-bomb dome.

The hotel is joined to a high end mall, which is really nice.

“Convenient location for sightseeing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

We stayed at the Rihga Royal Hotel Hiroshima for two nights in September 2012. Upon arrival you will be impressed with the spacious (and eerily empty) lobby. It's an incredibly vast space that feels like it takes up a city block, but we rarely saw more than a dozen people at any given time during our entire stay.

Rooms start on the 14th floor and go up until the 33 floor, where you'll find a restaurant and bar with nice views.

Our room was on the 14th floor and was a bit on the small side for a room with two beds. The view (facing Hiroshima Castle) was pretty enough, though. The AC system works incredibly well and kept us comfy and cool. We didn't hear our hotel neighbors so soundproofing is good.

As with most Japanese hotels, the beds are EXTREMELY firm, but there's not much you can do about that. The room came with a dorm sized refrigerator, but no safe.

The decor is a bit dated for one of the cities "top" hotels. The place definitely had it's prime back in the late 80's and early 90's. The room had some carpet stains and the bedspreads are a very dated floral pattern (with a plastic-like lining...presumably for bed bug prevention).

The bathrooms are clean and simple, with soap/shampoo/conditioner dispensers attached to the shower wall, but the decor, like in the rooms, was dated with light pink tiles and the absolute worst washlet toilet I've seen. There were no buttons, just a dial that barely produced enough water to moisten your backside. They may as well remove it.

However, the staff is friendly, the views are great, and the location was great for any tourist. An art museum is next door, the Castle and shrine are a block behind that. In the other direction, you're just blocks to the A-Dome, Peace Park, and Peace Museums. Also nearby is a covered shopping district with tons of shops.

Attached to the hotel is a shopping mall. Signs say the restaurants on the upper floors are open until 10pm, but we headed out for dinner at 9:15 and every single restaurant said they had already stopped serving. We ended up a basement level Chinese restaurant (that was good). So, be warned...despite the presence of a hi-rise hotel, bus station, mall, and department store, this area is rather deserted at night. It's not unsafe, but don't expect any local conveniences (shopping, bars, dining) past 8pm.

The top floor bar had lovely views and we went up there one night for drinks and sunset views (it faced the opposite side of the building than our hotel room so we could see the water and Miyajima Island, plus the Peace Park and A-Dome). As you would expect from any top floor hotel bar, drinks are overpriced, but the space and view are a nice for a relaxing drink if you've got some yen to spare.

There is apparently a decent spa/gym facility onsite, but it's not included in the room price and at (if I recall correctly) 3,000 yen per day to use it, seems a bit overpriced.

All in all, the hotel is convenient and quiet. The rooms (at least on the lower floors) could use some updating: new carpet, new bedding/linens, but it's not a horrible hotel. For two people at just 10,500 yen per night isn't so bad in a major city.

Room Tip: You can get cheap/simple rooms on the 14-16th floors for just over 10,500 yen.

“Very very nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

I will indeed choose this hotel again. Only 10 min. drive from the central station - with a taxi 930 yen. Perfect location only a few minutes from the a-bomb dome and the street car / tram going directly to Miyajima Island. All within walking distance.
Upon check-in we got a room on 12th floor. Upon request we got a room another room (with a better view) and ended up with a room on 26th floor with the most beautiful view. Very big room and bathroom.

“Excellent hotel and best location in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

Excellent. Great rooms (not the largest but adequate) and being a tower, great views. This is a proper four start international hotel located a very short distance from ground zero, Atomic Dome, Peace Park and good shops. Overall, excellent.
