“A little bit out of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

This hotel is too far out of town to consider a walk around after hours, however the view across the harbout to the lights of Hiroshima were fantastic.

Room was a little on the small side and bed a little too firm. Breakfast was as good as most Japanese quality hotels

OK as a stop over but would not stay there if you intend to spend a few days in Hiroshima

This is a reasonably new hotel, well appointed, spacious rooms with helpful staff. It allowed us a very comfortable stay. The hotel is out of central Hiroshima but right on the bay so it has a very pleasant outlook. I recommend it but with slight reservations because of the location.

Room Tip: Check that you room is facing the bay (water).

The Grand Prince is very much the resort it claims to be. The views are stunning, the available walks along the bay and through the woods are wonderful, and it's hard not to be taken by the splendor of the main lobby area.

If here for a wedding or something of the sort, you're likely in for a memorable and wonderful stay. Everyone else? Decide beforehand if you want to make a lot of sacrifices for the beauty - it may not be worth it to everyone.

The hotel is not terribly expensive, but the in-house restaurants certainly are, as is the provided breakfast buffet, and just about everything else. There is a small convenience store in the lobby with basic snacks and drinks along with other necessities.

A primary attraction is Miyajima island, which is a wonderful spot - but must be reached by boat. The hotel provides a boat that runs from morning till afternoon, but costs a bit. If you have a JR pass and want to go for free, the Hiroshima dock is a bit of a hike away but allows for the pass.

The hotel is very isolated from the main city but provides a free shuttle to Hiroshima station from morning until late afternoon.

The rooms are not large, but not tiny. They are decorated simply but have all the usual necessities provided, while the tv gets about 4 basic channels. Most include a wonderful view of the bay, but not all - so make sure you request one! There is no wifi in the rooms, but it works well in the lobby and second floor sitting areas.

If you have the misfortune of getting a room anywhere near other guests(especially with kids), you're not going to have a very quiet stay. The rooms are far from soundproof and you'll hear plenty of conversations, thunking around, and anyone walking the hall of your floor.

The staff are pleasant and helpful, with English speakers seemingly always near at hand. There is an in-house spa, a massage service, and other such features - but the associated prices kept us from trying any of it.

All in all, this makes a perfect destination wedding spot and likely a lovely getaway for those already in southern Japan, but for tourists looking to stretch their money and see all the Hiroshima sights? You may want to consider looking to one of the many other hotels clustered in the city center.

I have stayed at many hotels in Japan. This is the top of the list in quality of any hotel we have stayed at. I am almost certain this hotel is the best in Hiroshima. The rooms were very large by Japanese standards. The rooms had large windows looking over the bay. Very nice view of the harbour at night. I could watch the ships go by all day. It is at the end of a peninsula and there is a nice forested park to walk around if you wish to take a walk. Our package that we bought had breakfast included and also included a ferry transit to Miyajima Island to see the famous floating shrine. I would recommend to get the package because the ferry transit is not cheap at ¥2500 per person. Breakfast was unexpectedly good. They had all the western dishes and fresh fruit. I would highly recommend this place. The value was quite good considering it came with breakfast and ferry transit.

The last thing I would recommend is not to eat at the hotel restaurant if you are on any sort of budget. I found the very very expensive. I can not comment on the quality of the food as we chose to eat elsewhere.

Efficient check-in, well appointed room, practical comforts like a convenience store on its premises and the icing on this cake was a hearty western breakfast !
Makes one wish our stay there could have been longer !!

Room Tip: While not specifically about this hotel - for my vegetarian brethren - we found an Indian restaurant...

Nice and calm hotel, western sized room, 2 excellent single beds, little fridge and drinkable tap water. Bathroom with bath tube and all amenities. Hotel is a bit far off from the city. Free shuttle buses commute to train station in the morning and afternoon/evening. More adventurous people can also use the public transport (island bus every 30 minutes to the street car/tram station numbers 1, 5). A nice restaurant "La Guna" is about 400m down the road (direction main land). Food in the hotel restaurants seemed over priced and not worth a try. Command of English at reception desk was mostly poor, which did not help to get information on day trips etc. Free wifi in the lobby, rooms have ethernet LAN&cable. All in all an ok package for the price.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

I stayed two nights in a big, comfortable twin room with a lovely view across the bay. There's a fast boat from the hotel to Miyajima which is really handy for getting a lot of sightseeing done in one day. The hotel is out of town but there's a bus route between the hotel entrance and the station that stops by the peace park and downtown, as well as a free shuttle bus direct to/from the station (although frustratingly this wasn't mentioned on the booking confirmation when I reserved from the hotel website).

It's worth going to the Japanese/Western breakfast buffet for incredible views of the port and bay from the top floor. I arrived towards the end of service and the cooked food was cold, but there were plenty of other options like pastries and fresh fruit. I also tried the set menu breakfast in the Japanese restaurant, but it was fairly average and they tried to seat me facing away from the view. However, when I returned for an evening meal they chose a great table. The 'mini kaeseki' menu, while high price, was excellent and elegantly presented, with maybe seven or eight courses. By the end of the meal they even found someone who spoke English to wait on my table, which was thoughtful as there were lots of unfamiliar dishes. I got the impression that not many Westerners use that restaurant so maybe it's better to make a reservation in advance if you prefer an English speaking waiter.

I found the best deal on this hotel by booking directly on their website.
