“Wow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

All I can say is wow, wow, wow. The Andersen bakery is in an undercover pedestrianised street area (Hondori Street) and from the outside looks like an average coffee shop/bakery.

GO inside! Two floors of baked goods. Pastries that I think may have been made by angels, and upstairs even more cakes on display.

We actually just had a cup of tea and coffee and some pastries downstairs in the coffee shop area, not at the upstairs buffet. We ended up having three pastries each and sitting like gluttons watching the passing show. It was heavenly after a busy morning's sightseeing.

Highly recommended

“Come visit the Danish honorary consul!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2012

The Andersen bakery chain is a big success in Japan - the owner a big fan of Danish bread and pastry. named the place after fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. Great experience, check out the bread making process via the big glass windows.

“The Best Bakery in Hiroshima”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

They offer by far the best bread and pastries in Hiroshima. They have huge Ishigama (stone oven) in the store, churning varieties of delicious bread throughout the day. We love their flavoursome Ishigama English Bread; when toasted it is crunchy outside and chewy inside. Also their Danish pastries are absolutely wonderful. If you want to try uique Japanese product is steamed mugwart bun. You surely will be tempted to try them all. Don't leave Hiroshima without trying their Danish.

They also serve light sandwiches and cakes in the cafe on the ground floor and they have a restaurant on the first floor.
