“Convenient, comfortable hotel with great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

Stayed two nights at the friendly Urbain Executive in Hiroshima. Close to the station - shinkansen, regular trains, local buses, trams into the city all within 5 minutes walk. Also close to an off licence with a bewildering selection of sake and a supermarket.

Rooms are typical Japan budget hotel size, but comfortable, clean and well-appointed. Good Japanese breakfast, plus free hot and cold drinks in the breakfast area all day - a really nice touch, especially in hot weather. Plus a big shared bath on the ground floor, with different times for men and women.

It is a distance from the city centre, but walkable (or take a tram). Hiroshima is a great city. Be sure to have okonomiyaki Hiroshima-style: there's a great place on the top floor of a building opposite the station!

We stead here 2 nights, Good Hotel, rooms are small but cosy, nice shower and the free Laundry service is great. (just do it yourself in the lobby). A big, big groceries store is just a minute away. We didn't mind walking a little bit to the station (10 min). The price you pay is very worth your money. I would stay here again!

First of all: it's amazing how well they have used every inch to fit everything you need in one tiny room. That was my first thoughts when I entered the room.
I had a double room on the 13th floor with a great view of the hills to the north.

The value for money is great. I paid 6000yen per night for a double which included breakfast. Breakfast buffet was better than expected. Some cream bread, chocolate bread, meatballs, pasta, rice and some salads. Tea, coffee and soft drinks were available.

Everything I needed was fit into a tiny space: bed, tv, small fridge. Surprisingly the bathroom (and toilet) was very spacious. Shower was one of the best I had ever had with the side sprays. Loved the buttons on the toilet as well, haha.
High speed internet was available through a cable only. I used my apple airport express to create a wireless internet environment. It was plug-and-play.

There are 2 small supermarkets around the corner: 7-Evelen and the Family Mart, which was a big plus.
Didn't try the restaurants in the direct area, they didn't look really appealing I have to say.

The location was a bit off. It's located on the north side of the station (the Shinkansen entrance), so when you arrive by Shinkansen it's only a short walk. Also the airport bus stops on this side. However, as a tourist you will probably use the streetcars a lot and they are located on the southside. It's a 5/10 minute walk using an underground walkway.
The streetcars are extremely slow and it takes about 30 minutes in total to reach the city centre.

Staff is very helpful. I wanted to check out 1 day early because I was meeting a friend in Tokyo and that was no problem at all. I was refunded that 1 night.

Overall I was really pleased with the hotel itself, only the location was a bit off.

The room itself is very small with a tiny bathroom but clean and comfortable. Hotel is on the other side of the railway tracks to where all the places are that you may want to visit. However, it is a short walk to through the railway station. There are bikes for hire at a reasonable rate. There is free internet as well as use of a washing machine and drier (great plus if you are traveling light).

Stayed here after escaping Tokyo post-9.0 earthquake.

The hotel is East of the Hiroshima station whereas pretty much EVERYthing else is West. This was the hotels biggest downfall.

However, it is an easy 5-10 minute stroll from the station from the East exit, just head South down the main road - its on the same side as the station.

We wanted to check in 1 hour early but they made us wait. However we were pleased to learn about the extras;
- Free washer & dryer!!
- Free internet in lobby (only one laptop though)
- Free soft drinks and coffee in lobby (this was good)
- Free morning breaky in lobby
- Very cheap bike rental exclusive to guests. The bikes were great semi-electric powered Panasonic deals - good condition with lights.

The room was comfy and a decent size given the price. The shower was LIFE CHANGINGLY good as it has side jets as well as good water pressure and heat. The bed was the comfiest in Japan as it wasn't "Japan-hard" and it was recessed into the wood. TV was reasonable, with BBC and CNN I think.

The staff were okay. I STRONGLY recommend hiring the bikes, ride North past the station and then you will find an underpass which you can ride to the West of the train station - you can then go exploring and ride your bike to the A Bomb Dome and Nuke Memorial Center. Definitely worthwhile - one of the highlights of our Japan trip was riding around Hiroshima on these cool bikes, do not miss it!

Hey the room is small and totally functional. It has a great bed and bathroom which is all I wanted. Fast free internet was well utilised.

Check in was very quick and professional with a warm smile. When I asked for a recommendation for a local restaurant the gentleman on the front desk inquired as to my meal preferences and produced a map and showed me several options. When I returned fairly quickly because they were all smoking restaurants he then went to great effort to find me a non-smoking restaurant. This service was amazing and very appreciated.

The next morning I was politely asked if I had enjoyed the meal, great follow up.

Breakfast was filling and more than adequate.

As previously noted by other reviewers I received a gift pack of bath items and origami materials. Very touching and greatly appreciated and used.

It was a pleasure to stay here as a guest and I hope to return one day.

Strangely, in spite of the Lilliputian size of the room, one of the best places we stayed in Japan, due to its incredibly good value for money, friendly and helpful staff and complimentary facilities.

It is very close to the station for people with heavy luggage. Although the size of the room and name might suggest it is geared for executives, it also caters for tourists. We got a genuinely warm welcome from extremely efficient staff and I was given a gift bag containing a little sillk bag, loofah, bath salts and coloured squares (with instructions) to make paper cranes - a nice touch. There were details in the room regarding which trams to take get to the Peace Park and how to get to Miyajima island.

If you have read the Tripadvisor reports in advance, as we did, you will take the room size into consideration when booking and know what to expect. The room was indeed cramped, about 8' x 8', plus a "small but perfectly formed" bathroom. We were prepared for this and were willing to compromise on space because of the incredible value for money and additional free facilities and for 2 nights, happy to meet the challenges of the room size with humour (though our good humour might have been tested if there had been more than just the two of us or if we had stayed for longer). Bizarrely, I suspect that whoever designed the building also had a sense of humour as the cell-like rooms had heavy metal doors! Nevertheless, the fact so many practical things were included in the room is a true tribute to the ingenuity of Japanese design!

The small but deep oval bath was Ok for us, but, in retrospect, I wonder if the free onsen typr bath, available to men and women at different hours , was offered to accommodate the "larger guest" , who might have trouble with the bath in their room.

In spite of all this, this hotel still deserves full marks, as it is impossible to baulk at the incredible value for money, with the rates including:

* A generous (mainly Japanese) buffet breakfast, including 3 different sorts of rice triangles, meatballs, fresh salad, boiled eggs, pastries, miso soup, good coffee (if no fresh milk).

* Free fast Internet in the lobby and laptops available for hire.

* Free onsen-type bath.

* Vending machines on every floor.

* Use of dining area with free hot & soft drinks 24/7 (so why sit in your room?) to relax & read newspapers available, eat your own food, watch TV.

* Free washing machines and dryers.

* Delightful staff, happy to look after luggage after checkout.

Good things come in small packages!
