Pizza Riva opened in December 1997 and was one of the first traditional Napoli-style pizzerias in Japan. They use a wood-fire brick oven imported from Naples, and quality ingredients like buffalo mozzarella, artisan-cured salami, prosciutto, fresh basil and rucola. The pomodoro sauce is pure perfection - you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They also have a nice selection of wines, indoor and al fresco dining. It's a family-run business - the atmosphere is warm, upscale-casual, and a long-time favourite among locals and ex-pats alike. There is an English menu and English-speaking staff on hand.
In a brilliant shining moment for Hiroshima, in July 2012 Pizza Riva's star chef Shuhei Ooka took the top prize at the first international “Pizza Napoletana Olympics” held by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) in Naples.
They are open for lunch from 12-2pm and for dinner from 6-10pm. Closed on Tuesdays.
