“Travels with a two year old.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

After our stay at Hana Hostel, Osaka we were very much looking forward to our 4 nights at Hana Hostel Hiroshima and we weren't disappointed.
You really can't go wrong with these guys - they're on to it. Friendly and helpful staff and clean and well maintained especially given the age of the building.
We had a decent sized room for the 3 of us and were very surprised that our little boy slept so well on Futons both here and in Osaka.
Great place to hang out; good location; Hiroshima easy to travel around.
There's a very decent delimarket at the main train station in the basement where we bought our dinner each night; great food. There's also a half decent food court in the shopping mall just outside the station with great views from the 'restaurants'.
Miyajima Island a worthwhile trip too. A big day out but worth it.
Another great stay.

We stayed just 1 night at Hana hostel, a typhoon making us change plans last minute! We booked online the day before and it was an easy checkin when we arrived. We were thrilled that we got a Japanese style tatami room as we had only stayed in Western style previously. The room had its own small bathroom and plenty of space for us. The rooftop terrace was fun with beers and popcorn at night! It was only 500m from the baseball stadium so we walked there and bought tickets for the night which was awesome. The luggage isn't locked up, just in a cupboard before we could Check in, but I wasn't concerned about losing anything. The staff had good recommendations and directions and were friendly. English was good! Value was there for 2 of us in a room with an ensuite!

We have great memories of the Hana Hostel - having spent 4 nights there in August 2013. It has a great location close to the railway station (we travelled out a lot) ...and the rooms were clean and about as spacious as you could ever expect in Japan. The en suite was a pleasure (much better than sharing) and we found the staff very friendly without being intrusive.
The wi-fi worked quite well (enough for our requirements) and the air conditioning helped us through some very warm days. Overall we thought the Hana was a superb place to stay and would have no hesitation about staying there again!

Directions were not quite right, took me about 30 mins with google maps and gps to find it.
Walk out the train station and turn left. walk straight and follow the road, do not head right. Walk past the book shop and keep going down the road. eventually you will come to a bigger road that crosses the train line. Walk across this road but do not cross the train line. Take the next right and the you should see the shrine in front of you to the left. The hostel is opposite the shrine.

The location is good though being near the train station and all the sights are walkable. If you are going to see the floating torri get the train from platform 1 and take the train for Iwakuni until you get to the Miyajima-guchi station. Then follow everyone and the signs across the road to the ferry terminal and get on the JR ferry which takes about 10 mins. The ferry only goes past the torii on the way out. Also it is worth making sure you go at high tide. Times can be googled or they were on the notice board at Hana.

Very small rooms and miniscule bathroom in the dorm. You can hear everything. I had to get up early but I'm sure I must have woken everyone as there was just enough space to stand in the bathroom.

Aircon too hot. They have a policy to save electricity of not turning it below 28 degrees. I found this difficult to sleep at that temperature as the aircon wasn't very strong and it was very hot. It was August and very hot outside.

The staff helpful and friendly.

Towel hire is 100 yen

Kitchen well equipped. There is a seating area with TV and PCs and books to read.

wifi kept dropping its connection despite there being a network for each floor. Made a skype call impossible and booking things very difficult.

Facilities were clean.

They also stored bags for the day but you just leave them in a cupboard on the floor in which you were staying. The cupboard had no locks or anything.

Conveniently situated near the station in a quiet back street, nice clean rooms well kept, staff have very good English and were very helpful, baseball ground a few hundred mtrs away if that's your bag!
Good little noodle restaurants nearby.
Easy tram system for getting around.
Very easy to get to Miyajima island, used our JR passes, 25 mins then a straight 5 min walk down to the JR ferry, 10 min crossing. Nice little place to explore.

We would stay again in Hanna Hostel.

Room Tip: Twin western style are the largest

I stayed here in August of 2013. I found the Hostel to be well located, being less then a 10 minute walk from the public Transit hub of downtown Hiroshima. I stayed in a Mixed Dorm that was fairly spacious with a large closet to keep bags in. I personally found the staff to be underwhelming. While competent, I didn't find that the staff went out of their way to help those spending the night. That said, there was an Okinomiyaki party my first night there which served as an excellent mixer.

Great place to stay in Hiroshima - just a few steps away from the Peace Monument, and the Bomb Dome. Great Crew supports this fantastic location not only with their knowledge, but friendly suggestions and hints.
Very clean rooms, well equipped with both bathrooms and kitchen utensils.
