The hotel has recently been refurbished and it looked brand new. The twin room had 2 semi double beds, a sofa and great views over a park with a lake (you can hire a row boat). The double room, however was really small. We paid the same rate for both rooms so I strongly suggest getting the twin room it is so much bigger and the beds are large enough for 2 (my wife and I sleep in one of the semi doubles). The location is not in the middle of the city but only minutes away. With the free hotel shuttle bus and the subway it really wasn't an issue (a taxi cost only 800yen to the JR Train Station from the hotel). Like most hotels in Japan the restaurants are expensive. The hotel is walking distance to a restaurant district a real plus. The japanese really know how to do good food and the place is jam packed with great restaurants ($10 -$30 per person). The service of the hotel staff was excellent. I strongly recommend this hotel.

“Best Hotel In Sapporo!!!”

Novotel Sapporo

This must have been the best hotel in Sapporo! I was traveling with my three children.....2 that are under 3. The first night we stayed in a double bed room. The beds were American size doubles. The couch also had a bed the size of a twin. If traveling with small children, they do not have cribs. All the rooms have a wonderful blow dryer, TV.....only CNN is in english, robes, slippers, shampoo, brushes, tooth brushes.....and other personal care stuff, a mini bar, alarm clocks and triple curtains so it stays very dark when the sun comes up at 4 am!!
The hotel is more of a business hotel from my observation. It was very clean! They have 4 restaurants there in the hotel.
We had a wonderful view of the park from the 15th floor. It was only 3 stops from Sapporo Station and two stops from Odori Park. We personally walked most of the time. There is just so much to do not far from the hotel. They also have a shuttle that goes to Sapporo Station, Odori Park, the Renaissance Hotel and one other stop that I cant remember. The bus is not always on time or will leave early!
My children are loud sleepers! So, I went down and asked about upgrading to a double room. They did it for free! So, now I had two rooms, both with double beds for the same price! We were now on the 19th floor over looking the city.
There was a park just a few min away that I took the kids to many times. They had a play area, pond with row boats, gardens and much more.
There are lots of convenient stores just a block away. So I would get grab and go hot food and snacks for the kids that I kept in the mini bar in our room. With about a 6 min walk you can walk to a post office...for an atm, or laundry mat to wash clothes. The laundry mat was not your typical laundry mat, but it got the clothes clean.
I hope to make another trip up to Sapporo and I will stay here again!!!

“Loved the Hotel”

Novotel Sapporo

We stayed at the Novotel in Sapporo for 3 nights. They gave us a free room upgrade. From the moment we walked in the staff made us feel very welcome. They were so accomodating that it was almost embarassing. Our room included a delicious buffet breakfast that we really enjoyed. They had fresh eggs prepared, and all the Japanese breakfast standards along with great pasteries. The room was very large in japanese standards, with a couch and a LCD TV. The view of the park was stunning. The bathroom was big and separated into toilet and sink areas which is great for me.

The vending machines are lacking, so you might want to buy some stuff from convience stores before coming to the hotel. One of the greatest assets of this hotel was the FREE shuttle bus, that took you around the city - downtown JR station, park and sushkino areas all day long very reliably. We used it at least twice a day. The entire hotel was non smoking so it never smelt smoky at all, like another review that was posted.

Although the hotel is not on the main drags of the town, I would highly recommend it.

“nice but a non-smoker's hell”

Novotel Sapporo

stayed two nights at the arthur in february. the hotel is pretty nice and right next to nakajima koen. the room was clean and well maintained. staff is friendly and always willing to help. unfortunately, the hotel is a non-smoker's hell. ashtrays on every floor right in front of the elevators guarantee tobacco smoke everywhere. furthermore, none of the restaurants had a non-smoking section. if you don't smoke, look for alternatives!!! if you smoke, the hotel might be just what you were looking for.
