The Toyoko Inns are a real find throughout Japan. For a very reasonable price you get a comfortable, clean stay with lots of extras that make a long-term stay great.
This Hotel in Sapporo provided one of the larger rooms we had during a recent 2.5 month trip to Japan. It is definetely nothing to look out, but was clean and had a sink, refrigerator and hot pot which are great for long stays. For those truly on a budget, they also serve a VERY basic breakfast (rice and miso) and DINNER! (rice and curry sauce) . Since you have a fridge, you can bring back food from the supermarket as well. Downstairs is a microwave for guest use as well as an inexpensive washer and dryer. There is wifi in the lobby as well as 2 computers for guest use (unfortunately, there's usually people smoking in the lobby). Overall, there's just about everything you need for a longer stay when you want clean clothes and to check your e-mail. The a.c. in the room also worked well, which was usually NOT the case in other motels/hotels in Japan.
This is definetly not the place to stay for a honeymoon or if you are used to beautiful accomodations and other ammenities like room service or a restaurant. But if you want a place that has everything you need (you can't always get what you want, but...), this is it!
One more note - for runners it is sometimes difficult to find places to run in Japan. This hotel is right across the street from a very long river trail - great for just a walk, but a real find for runners.
