“«Was stuck in the elevator, called the reception, and the only thing they asked was for my room number...»”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

I travelled to Hangzhou with 6 friends. I shared a deluxe bedroom with two of my friends.

Positive:
-Clean, spacious room
-Good breakfast – had chinese and western breakfast
- Centraly located. Close to the the West Lake – 10 minutes walk. Lots of shops and restaurants around.

Negative
- poor english skills among the employees
-was stuck in the elevator – used the phone inside the elevator. Here comes the conversation between me and the woman on the phone (receptionist): «Me: Do you speak english? Receptionist: A little. Me: I am stuck in the elevator, I can not get out! Receptionist: What’s your room number?» Jeez!!! Thank GOD that I dont have clautrophobia! I was stressed though as I was in a hurry to check out, to catch a waiting cab to another city... The whole thing ended up with me pushing the alarmbutton as I just lost the person on the other side of the phone. I pushed the alarmbuttom for 2 min (2 min seems like ages when you are stuck in the elevator..!) - and could barely hear the alarm. After approx 10 min, I was still stuck in the elevator – and no help was in sight... I desperately tried to get to another floor in and hoped that the door would open. So finally – the door opened on the 6th floor. And when I finally got to the reception – it didnt seem like anyone took notice of the elevator being «broken», and me being stuck in there... I didnt even try to explain to the recetionist what happened, as I would probably spend 30 minuts + to make them understand what I am saying, as their english skills is so poor... Hopeless...

The hotel wanted to charge us for ekstra pillow and bedsheets (117 yuan), as they couldn’t «see» that we have booked the deluxe room for 3 people, even though I had papers showing that I have paid for three people staying the room. After arguing with them for a long time, they finally «found» the right booking. Another JEEEEZ.
No bar at the hotel

Would definitely NOT recommend this hotel, maybe unless you’re able to speak mandarin you would able to convey that you are stuck in the elevator... ( I speak two different dialects in chinese, but it didn’t help me, as the dialects are mutual unintelligble.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn’t have a see through glass door to the bathroom/restroom - unless you don...

Official check in time was 14:00, they let us in at 11:30am. Checkout time is 1pm. Very nice. The breakfast at 38rmb pp (cheaper than the booking confirmation said) was the best thing, with a good selection of fresh fruit, some cereals, juice, pastries, freshly fried eggs, toast, and Chinese food too. The rooms are comfortable, with lovely beds. 3 English channels on tv. Shower hot and plenty. The staff were efficient, and spoke English. The hotel is just round the corner from Zhong Shan Zhong Lu, which is a pedestrian street leading south to the main tourist area with shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Rooms with odd numbers are on the south side, which is off the main road, so quieter.

Good quality for the price. We had a computer in the room, heh! :) Everything was fine, can't say anything wrong about the hotel. Good location, just 10RMB for the taxi from the train station. There are no many international travellers in the hotel, which is even better :)

I stayed in this hotel for 1 week. The breakfast was amazing with a wide variety o choices.

Room was modern and clean, with complimentary bottles drink everyday. Location is also a plus point as it is walking distance to some big shopping center nearby.

Getting to the west lake is just about 15mins by cab and not expensive.

Recommended for traveller with middle budget hotel range.

Some parts of the hotel and the rooms could use a bit of refurbishing, but with its great location, you wouldn't really mind - especially with its affordable rates.

It's walking distance from malls and West Lake. It's near Grandma's Kitchen, a very popular restaurant that you definitely shouldn't miss!

They barely can understand or speak English, but at least one from the staff can. I advise you to get a business card with the hotel name and address in Chinese so cab drivers won't be confused, especially with many other SSAW hotels in Hangzhou.

After a slightly chaotic check in, our air-conditioned rooms were a welcome respite from the August humidity in Hangzhou. The location is very good - near to some good restaurants (try the Red Lantern and North-West Family around the corner), the night market, and the lake.
We went for some hiking in the nearby tea plantations - the breakfast provided a good start to the day. A generous (and Western - friendly) buffet; with cereal, toast, pastries fruit, juices, eggs, Chinese breakfast options, yogurts, etc. Good showers with decent pressure and hot water. And even 2 English TV channels - HBO and BBC. Overall, a good value and comfortable stay.

Room Tip: Not all the rooms are non-smoking - if you mind this, book in advance.
