I have been to Hangzhou a couple of times and normally stay at the Hyatt. This time it was a staff outing and therefore we stayed at a more budget orientated hotel.
Well what a great hotel at one third the price of the Hyatt but with better views.
Unlike most Chinese managed hotels this one even had soft comfortable beds and it even felt okay to walk on the carpets in bare feet. The rooms are a good size and comfortable and have most amenities required including some English TV stations.
The lobby is nicely furnished and the restaurant on the seventh floor serves a great buffet breakfast but worth visiting just for the spectacular views over the lake.
This is a great value hotel which I would recommend if you are on a bit of a budget. Don't get in confused with the Lakeview Hotel next to the Hyatt (the Wanghu is also know as the Lakeview) which is a dive!!

Position wise this was one of the best hotels we stayed in during our tour of China.
The location on the banks of the lake and the first class qaulity of the hotel made it a pleasure to stay here.
The food and the view from the 7th floor restaraunt alone is worth the price of one night's accomodation.
A great hotel that I would not mind staying again in the future.

This is definitely not a top-of-the-line hotel but still worthwhile if you want to be on the town side of West Lake. We were lucky to have the spectacular lake view -- even my uncle who lives in Hangzhou confirmed that it's great! The lakefront was, however, very noisy on Friday & Saturday night. You cd hear rock music in the rooms until late.

Best thing after view is the in-room computer & free internet connection. No more smoky internet cafes or overpriced business centers. I caught up on all my emails while staying here.

The restaurant was subpar for breakfast and dinner. Some of the food just sits for hours -- yuck. And even what is made to order doesn't taste quite right.

You can tell that this used to be one of the best places in town but that was some years ago. Nevertheless, it had its advantages.

We booked a room only for $71 a night for 3 nights. The room was newly renovated and very comfortable, with high ceilings, a huge bed, cloth robes, slippers,kettle, in room mini bar, and lots of tea, coffee, and complimentary water. . Several of the staff spoke English well and helped us with getting around the city.The location is unbeatable. The hotel is across the street from the West Lake, so it was very easy to walk around this picturesque lake. It is on the lake edge of the downtown, so touring the city is also easy.

An earlier review referred to an odour problem; I found no evidence of this. The pool is not for adult swims; it is quite small and the staff said it was suitable for children. The buffet dinner on the roof was only 58 RMB and was highlighted by chefs wandering from table to table with large skewers of barbequed meats and vegetables.

I would stay here again.
