“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Was there last October with my colleague. We two shared a twin room. The room's a bit old (the furniture and the decoration), but sort of big.

They provide a lot free movies and comedies in the cable TV which in many other hotels you can only enjoy part for free. And the mirror in the bathroom is 'anti-steam', which impressed me.

Breakfast's good but a bit crowded so better go down early.

Will take about 15 mins drive to the West Lake (if the traffic's ok).

Huge rooms, excellent services, club floor has good breakfast and excellent per dinner aperitifs
Sauna, swimming pool, clean, and not far from west lake.
I would definitely go back.
It's very close to many fashion shops.

The staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful. I am here on a business trip for 3 weeks. So far, after the first 7 days I am very satisfied. Because of my platinum status with Marriott (price to pay for being away from home at least 75 days in a year!) I was upgraded to a larger room with a bathtub and access to the Executive Lounge. All of the staff members are willing to go the extra mile to make my stay pleasant. Even though I checked out last weekend for a side trip to Beijing, I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel so that I could travel very light during the weekend. I was also able to use their safe to leave my laptop.

The reason I rated this hotel "Very good" instead of "Excellent" is because the Momo Cafe for dinner was a bit on the expensive side (for China and even for the U.S.) and not the best tasting. In addition, even though we ordered appetizers and main course, we received the main course first and not everyone at the same time as is usual in the US and by the time the appetizers were delivered one of us was done with dinner, I was almost finished, and the other person in our party had just received his main course. Obviously they did not have the concept of having everyone eat at the same time and no distinction was made between appetizers and main course. Perhaps this is the Chinese way but this is not how Western food should be served.

As far as location, there are many shops and local restaurants in the area. There is also a mall within 10 minutes walking distance with many fancy stores and restaurants.

Room Tip: They have rooms facing the major road (Hushu Road) and others facing the rear. I am facing the rear...

We stayed in this hotel for two nights. The facilities were new so the you would easily get a very good impression. But when you really get to the place, you find it much more than just nice exteriors.

Staff members were friendly and helpful. They really try their bests to accomendate your requests and make your life most convinient possible. My wife found the laundry bag very nice so she decided to put all of our changed underwears in the bag on the first evening. After we came back to our room on the next day, we found the laundary was already done with a note saying that they found we put some laundries in the bag without filling out the laundry form so they decided to do the laundry for us anyway. I called the front desk to tell them that the resaon why we didn't fill the form was because we didn't want them to do the laundry. They were very polite and waived the laundry expenses immediately.

This property is adjacent to the JW Marriott so the pool area is shared by the two properties. I got to enjoy the JW standard pool by just paying Courtyard standard price. The pool area is very nice and the locker room condition is excellent.

The location of the hotel is not the best in town assuming the closer to the westlake the better the location is. But you can actually walk for 15 minutes to get to the westlake, which is alright convenient. If you take a cab, you will not feel the distant at all.

Their complimentary breakfast has a wide variety of foods to choose from. You will not be disappointed. The best part of the breakfast is that they serve till 11:00. If you want to go cheap, you can actually save some money for lunch if you go in there late in the morning and have a nice brunch.

I travel to Hangzhou four or five times a year and usually spend a week at a time at this hotel. The people who work at this hotel are SPECTACULAR! On one of my last visits a collegue had a major stomach/digestive issue (not contracted from this hotel). Michelle who runs the Executive Lounge translated the antibiotics that were needed into Chinese and then arranged a bellman to walk me to an apothecary some five blocks away to secure the right medicines (Flagyl and Chinese herbs). The rooms in the hotel are fully adequate for Western standards and access to the J.W. Marriott next door (especially the Crue Steakhouse) are just bonuses. Breakfast or lunch in the MoMo Cafe are very good, especially from a value standpoint.

Room Tip: A room on the 16th floor gives great access to the Executive Lounge

We stayed in this hotel for one night. The service was first-class. The check in manager Daisy was friendly, polite and helpful and created an excellent impression. It was also really nice on arrival to receive a cup of hot lemon tea. Just what was needed after walking around in the cold weather! After check in, when we discovered our room didn't have a bath-tub the hotel quickly and happily moved us to another room with a bath. All of the other staff we encountered through our stay were friendly and obviously well trained, always smiling and saying hello. There were other nice touches such as an offer of free late check out if we needed it. The breakfast was excellent with a good range of both Western and Chinese options. The swimming pool and spa centre is really nice and includes a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi which are great after a long day sightseeing.

The only slight issues I would note are: 1. the bathroom and bedroom in the rooms are separated only by a large glass window which means there is zero privacy when in the bathroom. There should at least be a panel of frosted glass. 2. The swimming pool water could be slightly warmer.

However, for us these were only minor complaints. Overall we had an excellent stay. Why can't all hotels train their staff as well as here? We highly recommend.

Room Tip: The higher floors (14th and 15th) have a view of West Lake.
