“Nice show despite the rain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

Despite the rain, I had fun watching this Zhang Yimou directed show performed with West Lake and the surrounding nature as its stage and backdrop . We were all given disposable raincoats and to me, the rain didn't really diminish the experience. It's a water spectacle after all.

After the show, walked along the lake until reaching the Broken Bridge where I took shelter from the rain in one of the pavilions and enjoyed the locals performing Teresa Teng songs and dancing the night away. It was a night to remember.

“Spectacular”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

A great experience right from the moment we walked through the shops with the crowd in the evening to reach the viewing stands. This show was spectacular in the way it used the staging under the water to support the movement of the dancers and also in the way the cast used the water itself to make striking patterns in the lights. Both the lighting and sound were excellent. We had seen West Lake during the day and our guide had told us the legend of Lady White Snake and her unfortunate fate which helped us understand what was taking place.

“must go”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

Westlake is must go in Hangzhou! my advice is take a fine day to have a walk along the lake. it's truly worth. the best part of the lake is the west part rather then the city side. you can see the nature beauty and Chinese garden art!

“Stunning light show”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

Visited Hangzhou three weeks ago and bought tickets for Impressions of the Lake. Although tickets not cheap, the show was worth every penny. Beautiful tale of forbidden love. Choreography simply stunning with amazing light show. Dancers appeared to float on water. well worth seeing.

“A Stunning Show on West Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

The outdoor night show of “Impression West Lake” in Hangzhou takes place using the lake and its surroundings as props. The great use of lights and natural surroundings together by the hundreds of actors create a sensational performance.
Most of the stage is built 1-2 inches below the surface of the water, which surrounded by the lake water. Music and lighting elegantly come together in this thousand year old legendary love story.
“Impression West Lake” is directed by Mr. Zhang Yimou who was in charge of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Co-directors are: Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue.
Seating for this night show is outdoors in the open without any cover, so late fall and early spring nights might be risky for a possible rain or cold weather. An appropriate jacket/cover might be a good idea for such seasons. A regular sear costs about $40.00 per person.

Although the show is well organized, the short trip from the parking lots to the show area and back might be challenging for many people at night in the dark crowded streets. Area streets are not well lit and some of the sidewalk surfaces are uneven and there are multiple large obstacles that are placed on sidewalks (to block the cars). These ‘Traps’ might be challenging to avoid, and may become hazard for pedestrians on the way to the show.
