“Good location, small hotel but need improvement in service and rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

I chose this hotel because of the location and good reviews at trip-advisor.
I booked a Deluxe Suite and asked for room on the peaceful location.
Chek-in was smooth and room size was good and modern. It has electronic controls (on side of bed the controls were broken) for everything but its difficult to understand and there is no instructions of any kind for anything in the room. You will have to test and try on you own to learn or understand everything.
Good size flat tv in middle of the room (but with only one English channel), a music player with Ipad/Iphone connectivity which switches on by itself when you enters the room.
I was surprised to find very small toilet for a deluxe suite. Sometimes you will suffocating is such a small toilet. There was no laundry bag or any instructions about laundry.
In such a big room, no luggage stand, you have to keep luggage on floor and its very uneasy to take out things from the luggage when placed on floor. In center of room, there is lan cable for computer but that was not working. Wireless signal was very low and speed very fluctuating. and most surprising, you have place to put your lalptop but there is no chair to sit and work on it.
Curtains are remote control operated but again remote is blank without any instructions how to operate or any sign on it. Even housekeeping person found it difficult to use and he tried many buttons to open or close the curtains.
I asked for room on peaceful location, but my room was lobby facing and you can hear all sound at lobby. At late night there was some arguments between some people in the lobby and i could easily hear everything (room was on 4th floor).
I think they need better room maintenance, and instructions are must to tell how to use everything.
For breakfast I went to restaurant on ground floor where I was the only one. They have set menu out of which I ticked butter and toast with tea only as I am Vegetarian. But when they bring it, I found toasts are placed with a piece of meat (which was not mentioned in the menu) and when I ask them to get me one without meat, they didnt understand it and on repeated request, they took it back and bring same one back by removing the meat peace.
The best advantage to me of this hotel was that its just opposite Indian Restaurant so there was no problem of lunch or dinner.
Otherwise location is good, very peaceful area, underwater world is a walking distance, getting taxi is also easy.

Stayed at Crystal Orange Hotel in September 2012.

This is our 3rd stay and we were not disappointed. We were happy to return.

Pros
1) Quiet location near the West Lake
2) Reception Staff spoke English and were helpful.
Wanted a non-smoking room, was given option to choose from 3 rooms before we
checked-in. How flexible is that! That is what I call excellent service to please.
3) Rooms were bright, modern and clean.
4) Beds were comfortable and large.
5) Good wifi reception in the room (actually I think whole hotel is wired. Had connection nearly everywhere).
6) Had a goldfish in my room. Was surprised had a different goldfish the next day (Glad they do change them around and took great care of them).
7) There are 2 Apple computers in the Lobby for guests to use.
8) Good massage shop around the corner of the hotel (Dragonfly).

Cons
1) No hangers in the bathroom to hang clothes
2) Breakfast is not good. Poor selection.
(There's a French Bakery along Nanshan Road which is good)

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the Park.

I'm not entirely sold by the location of the hotel. It is near the west lake, but not the main attractions. The west lake is a very large mass of water. This hotel is located on the eastern side of the lake, a fair walk from these places. The rain didn't help too. I should admit that we didn't do our research prior to arriving so I guess expectations might have been a tad on the high side :)

Now that that's out of the way, I'm not sure I can fault the hotel in any other way. The staff were very friendly (particularly the concierge guys). The room was well done up, and the in-room wifi was reliable. We signed up for the membership, but didn't make use of the breakfast discount since the mrs prefers local cuisine over your international spread.

Probably won't pick this hotel again for the location, but the Crystal Orange franchise certainly left a good impression.

Arrive in the hotel at midnight, the service at reception is good and friendly. Quick check in.
Taxi to and from Airport is around RMB110.
Location is okay i guess, quite near to the West Lake, but with the West Lake being so big, there are actually many hotels close to the lake.
I stayed with my elderly parents, and while location is close to places like Hefang Street (15 minutes walking), its not suitable for elderly to walk the distance. Taxi there is better at RMB11.
Very few restaurants around, we had breakfast every morning in a little shop across the street which serves variety of local Chinese food. Also there is a nice bakery nearby, from the entrance cross the road, turn left, walk past the convenience store, pass the fruit stall, pass the market and there is the bakery.
The room is nice, not too big, not too small either. For some reason, there is no fish in my room, which is a good thing i guess.
The best room feature for me is the music / ipod player. Once you enter the room, the soft music will play automatically. There is a speaker in the bath as well.

Room Tip: Get a room with Balcony located on level 2.

This hotel is in good location. We arrived in hangzhou by speed train from shanghai. Took a taxi (after a long disorder queue) and arrived at the hotel in about 15min. Check in was fast, arrived in the room we were greeted by music played automatically upon enterring. A small gold fish and some chocolates on the bed, nice touch. Room was comfy n clean.shower is good. Hotel location also good, just walk across the road and we are already at the west lake. Walking distance to Lei Feng pagoda. Easy to take taxi.
We are a bit worried at first because the hotel doesnot have a dedicated non-smoking room they can only clean up the room to make it fresh. But our worry was unnecessary since our room was fresh. Will return to this hotel during our next trip in oct.

Where to start? Location is really good for those of us familiar with Hangzhou. Across the road from the lake. Bike hire, WiFi, in room music system and fridge all positives. Compact room but not small.

Lighting system in room is frustrating. No one told us the hotel had breakfast available and a room compendium would help here. Shower leaked under shower door and even though you are advised to place towels in basket provided to be changed, there is no basket and towels are changed regardless.

Overall we liked staying here, it was across the road from West Lake which in the last 5 years has been made to look even more beautiful. Bikes were available and in riding condition, and from our experience with hotels in China you can get a lot worse.

well placed beside some cheap eateries (popular with locals)and in front of West Lake with easy access to boat trips and cafes lining the promenade. Compact bedrooms and well appointed bathrooms with glass screen to bedroom. Free, fast wi-fi, cheezy lounge music on sound system comes on when you enter but stick your ipod on the system and hey presto, your own choice instead. Very reasonable breakfast prices, all in all good priced hotel and good location, nearby starbucks and western chains if you need them (right on leaving hotel facing lake).
