“Quiet corner on the eastern shore of West Lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

Its an inexpensive (RMB500 per night) option in Hangzhou if you want to stay close to the eastern shore of West Lake. There are not many restaurants around the hotel but if you were to take a local bus (on the same side of Nanshan Road as the hotel), and travel for about 4 bus stops, you will cometo Xihu Tiandi, where you will be spoilt for choice for food and shopping. The bus ride only costs around RMB 2. A taxi to Hefang Road (the pedestrian-only shopping street) will costs about RMB10. The hotel is clean and modern. The staff were friendly and helpful and attended to our requests quite promptly. I have no qualms about staying here again.

This small, boutique hotel is well located very near West Lake itself in Hangzhou. The decor is very modern and the room is highly automated with fancy lighting and sound schemes (that are of course, nearly impossible to figure out how to work or change!) and a remote control to work the motorized blinds/shades. Reminded me of the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas. Beds were comfortable--not hard like some Chinese hotel beds.

Oddly, there is only one elevator bank but it was reasonably prompt. Just be aware of this because if guests are checking in or leaving, the one elevator can get busy!

Breakfast was disappointing because there is no buffet. You get handed a small form which you then check off from a few things offered. Couldn't even get both coffee and juice--had to choose one! Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable stay!

Room Tip: Be aware that there are a few rooms that are interior-facing with windows that overlook the lobby/at...

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel. Read all the previous review so decided to give this hotel a try.Firstly I need to correct the fact that from the airport to the hotel only cost 100rmb and not 150 mentioned previously by other travelers. Ok as you enter the hotel it has a nice refreshing fragrance, the reception is helpful and the check in is swift. However, as I enter the room I was quite disappointed. I requested a double bed room and the room is quite small. Quite different from the pics. The toilet has no hangers to hang clothes if you bathe. This is the only setback, other than that the room is dusty but the wifi, sound player and the large screen TV has in fact overshadow all the minuses.

The location is just behind west lake so it's a short walk. The surrounding has many snacks shop and 7 Eleven shops so toiletries and drinks is not a problem. Mind you the weather is a killer during July to sept. Its a furnace here. Drink plenty of water to avoid heat stroke. It's best to take the caddy ride to tour west lake. It's cheap and u get to view the lake on a round trip. Of course it's conducted in mandarin but it's better than walking. They stop at different point at the lake. It takes one long for the whole ride. Walking would take 4 hours at least.

Nice smaller sized hotel in the middle of Hangzhous main area. You can walk to a lot of areas, newer hotel, good general experience, and the rates were good when I stayed.

This is certainly one of the coolest hotels I have ever stayed in. Something like a downmarket W Hotel, I suppose. Sleek and modern (almost comically so), with lots of mood lighting throughout (choose from the Paris, New York, XiHu, Reading, or Sleeping Beauty room lighting schemes from your bedside console, though they didn’t always seem to work). Remote-controlled curtains. Glass elevator and Warhol prints in the atrium-style lobby.

Our room (8332, down a labyrinth of corridors; a “Superior Queen Room” according to the C-Trip reservation) didn’t have a balcony, but it was large, quiet, comfortable, and very clean. No minibar, and the air conditioning duct in the ceiling didn’t really appear to be connected to anything, but these are minor complaints when the in-room soundtrack is this funky and greets you as soon as you insert your room key to power up the electrical system. Of course, it’s only ten or fifteen songs that repeat, so you might start using that iPod dock or the TV if you stay more than one night. And yes, you will have your own little pet fish for the stay.

The location is very convenient to West Lake (through the nice park) and to some markets to buy snacks, produce, and street-stall breakfast items. The big bus stop just a short walk away across Nanshan Lu will get you to Lingyin Temple without much fuss (I think it was the Y2 bus; it has an English-speaking conductor who will make sure you get where you want to go).

The hotel was superb, friendly and helpful staff, they won't let you to carry your own luggage, the room was clean, modern design. The hotel has a great atmosphere, dim light. the room has a balcony so you can see the view of trees from west lake garden (even though you can't see the lake) the location is very close to west lake and 10 minutes with taxi to wushan night market. take about 15 minutes with taxi to Hangzhou train station (you can take bullet train to Shanghai from this station). the airport is quite far about 120 RMB by taxi (40 minutes without traffic)

The Crystal Orange is a great little hotel in a lovely location just next to West Lake. While you can’t see the actual lake from the rooms, the outlook from our 3rd floor room was very attractive, looking out into lush green trees. It is a busy road but the double-glazing is impressive – with the inner and outer doors closed, traffic noise is cut to a minimum.

The room itself is small, but bright and modern with a glass wall through to the bathroom which, together with the small balcony, made the space feel a lot more open (although it was a bit tedious winding the privacy screen up and down all the time). We had some fun with the various lighting modes – the place has some nice tech! (Free) in-room WIFI was a lifesaver and allowed us to plan each day on the fly.

It is a short walk through the beautifully manicured park to the lake. We spent most of our stay either on foot, or on the bikes provided by the hotel – free if you take them for up to 2 hours, or a very reasonable 5RMB thereafter (they are a bit old but functional). We really enjoyed exploring the area on the bikes and even took them over to the other side of the lake when we went to see Impression West Lake (absolutely wonderful, by the way). We were quite happy to be able to cycle off freely while everyone else panicked about finding a taxi.

One downside was the lack of public areas. Though the lobby (complete with glass lift) is nicely fitted out with some waiting chairs, there is no bar or restaurant so it’s not a very social place. We were surprised to find no in-room safe, but there were individual safes accessible through the front desk.

The service was mixed. While most staff were generally friendly, they varied in their actual helpfulness. We had a few frustrating conversations at the front desk – some due to language challenges, others more general knowledge – and on one occasion got taken to the completely wrong place, 15 km out of town, by a taxi briefed by the front desk. Check-out was a bit of a mess too; after waiting for 15 minutes despite about 4 staff being present, we were served by a young woman who had difficulty interpreting the hotel’s own invoice (a clear ledger stating amounts incurred, amounts paid, and outstanding balance).

These little things are what make this a 4 rather than a 5, but I’d definitely recommend it and would stay there again.
