I stayed a week at this lovely guesthouse to visit our daughter studies a year at the Yunnan University. The rooms are nice and clean, bathrooms are small but good showers and facilities.
The food at the restaurant is very nice, good western breakfast with excellent cappucino's! Great pizzas and salads are served during the day. The personell is very friendly and speaks, good english. The offered service for theater tickets and arranging a taxiservice to the airport at 5 in the morning was great.

Stayed here for one night as they were fully booked after that. Had room 201, a double room with bath. Sheets and towels were clean (very important to me) and the bathroom was well stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap. The hairdryer was much appreciated. English speaking staff are always a plus for those of us who speak no Mandarin. Wifi in the room was also nice, though not a good signal most times. On the negative side, the room has a king sized bed which is great, but it leaves very little room for two people to move around. Also the room is next to some of the dorms and the communal bathrooms and the noise tends to carry in the building. The guest house is down a small lane and not that easy to find, so get very clear, concise directions. We took the #2 bus from the train station and it would have worked perfectly except we missed the stop.

We stayed here twice and we liked it both times. The staff was really helpfull and friendly. The rooms were very nice, clean and the beds were comfy. We ate once in the hostel, the pizzas are a little bit expensive but delicious!

I spent only one night here. And when I called the hostel one day earlier, there was only one room available for me and I took it. When I arrived, maybe because it was dinner time, the staff were very busy so I did not have warm welcome. My room was small, on the ground floor and just by the stairs, all windows are small and face to public area so I had to pull the curtains, then the room is dark. I notice the mould on the wall by the bed...ok this is a hostel not a fancy star hotel so I did not complain.

Well as many others stated, the public area is nice and beautiful, the cozy restaurant, relaxing terrace, food, beers (many different choices with reasonable price! love that!)...I really enjoyed the evening on the terrace with a cold beer and wonderful weather in Kunming. This hostel is just by the beautiful lake but hidden in residence area, a bit difficult to find but with very quiet neighborhood. What an oasis in dusty Kunming...

But, back to my room, unfortunately, I found the shower tap was broken. How come they did not find it and fix? But it was midnight. I tried my best eventually to take 'shower'...most of the guests would keep quiet after 10pm. But unfortunately, the restaurant, the reception are on top of my room, and next to the stairs, I could hear the sound of late coming people, the early get-up, the staff answering the phone, and the walking in the restaurant....I could not sleep at all at that night...

Next morning I had wonderful breakfast in the restaurant and enjoyed the sunshine...my feeling was mixed. This is a nice hostel, but pls be careful with the room location...

Room Tip: Dont take the twin room by the stairs!

Hello and thank you for your review,

Sorry for the not very warm welcome. The front desk can be a bit busy at dinner time indeed and the staff is focusing on trying to be efficient. No excuse but with their limited english, they're doing their best to accommodate everyone.

And yes, the twin room below the stairs has a few problems but it's also cheaper for that reason. After your review, we are now trying to explain that to our arriving customers before they take the room. There is also a humidity problem in that room and we are working on solving that, we just added a "air-drying machine". We also try to repair things like shower as soon as we know it's broken. Really sorry about that!

Hope you can enjoy a better stay next time. Book early to make sure you can choose your room.

The rooms are very clean with large spacious single beds and bunk beds. The linens are comfortable. You share a washroom with a couple of other rooms but the fixtures and facilities are modern and spotless. There is water cooler on each floor for everyone's convenience. You can enjoy the beautiful weather from the roof top terrace. I found the prices for the their airport shuttle a little pricey so stick to finding a cab on your own. If my schedule allowed it I would stay longer at the Lost Garden Hostel

This is exactly what is advertised. Clean rooms, well positioned near the park, quite guest house. Wu-fi available.
I stayed over a Monday and didn't realise the kitchen is closed on Monday - if seems as though you had to ask for information rather than it being available. Once you asked, the staff always knew the answer and were happy to provide it.

We transferred here from another nearby hostel and this was a delight, just what you would hope a hostel would be. Great value for money, clean, quiet, excellent food, nice restaurant and terrace area, great location. Staff are uber friendly and efficient. What more can you ask except perhaps that some guests be a little more considerate and less self centred, there was an American couple who talked loudly in a nearby bedroom all night but hardly the hostel's fault and I am sure the staff actually addressed the issue with them....well done.
