“Well Appointed Luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

This hotel offers large and very well appointed rooms, in the same complex as an 8 story shopping mall. The buffet restuarant has a very wide range of Asian and some western food, all quite good. The airport is about 30 minutes away by taxi. Front desk and restaurant staff have some English. All in all, a good business hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

I stayed a few days at this relatively brand new hotel in the center of Kunming. The room was spacious and well catered for. The bed quality was very good and so was the bathroom. The amenities were also plentiful and the staff were efficient though it is is best if you can speak Chinese with them since most do not speak good English. Unfortunately, the room I was in had very slow Internet connection. I had to go and purchase a sim card for my iPad to do my work. When I asked the hotel to fix this problem, the staff failed to understand the problem. The problem was that the wireless routers were in the corridor and the LAN didn't work. At time I went into the corridor to get some reception. The hotel does have, as is the case in many local hotels, a cigarette shop at the ground level and since smoking is permitted non smokers may find the experience of going through the lobby annoying. Nevertheless, as hotels go in China this is one of the best I have stayed in outside Beijing and if you travel to Kunming I would certainly recommend it.

Stayed for 4 nights last weekend.

Very centrally located - just 2 blocks from the main shopping belt.

Great room, very efficient + quiet air-con - fast internet connections.

I wouldn't elaborate further as others have described all the facilities of the hotel available.

On the breakfast part - as an Asian and non-meat eaters - the breakfast has a fantastic array of veggies. The congee selection is great - 8 treasures, green beans or plain congee (3 types each day) - take your pick. The noodle corner caters to your personal preference.

For the avid shoppers - there is a night market (pasar malam) 3 blocks away. Good quality socks (7 pairs for US$1.50) - wear and discard - cheaper than doing the laundry ! However - shopping is limited to a few streets - which you will be able to cover in a day or 2.

Kunming City has very limited entertainment or sightseeing to keep young children occupied - it is however the springboard to Lijiang (7 hours car ride) or an hour by plane.

KTV ? 50 metres from the hotel on your right.

Foot massage ? another 300 metres away - foot massage from RMB 40 for 60mins.

Don't bother asking the concierge as they will point to their "favorite" joint - that you need to take a cab at 6 times the price.

Shoppers take note !!

We were served cold water in a disposable cup at one of the shoes outlet - I spot something SWIMMING on the surface....... it is a very minute - i cannot make out what it was ....but I can clearly see the ripples as it swims around. So LOOK before you drink or bring your own bottled water with you !!!

Security in and around the city is very good - we walked back to our hotel after our spa at 1am and it was safe. The cleaners were washing up the roads/pavements.

Stayed 1 night only as part of a tour. Right in the centre of Kunming next to large shopping mall. Very spacious room, very comfortable. Enormous buffet for diner and breakfast. Very good.

I give this hotel a perfect score as it met all my personal (creature) needs to the full: Well appointed large rooms (wooden floors and paneling); plenty of power outlets around the room, designed to cater for any type of socket; good quality free wireless and LAN Internet access anywhere in the hotel; immaculate bathrooms with temperature control showers (a first for me); substantial breakfast (with enough seating not to convey that hurried feeling): and personal attention whenever needed. Admittedly, the hotel does not have a proper gym or a swimming pool, but that was not a major concern for me.

The hotel is situated on top of a shopping mall (from the 9th to 16th floors). However, it has a separate entry and designed in a way that the mall is not obvious at all. It has the convenience of being right in the centre of town, but again the rooms are quite and the sleep quality excellent. The 9th floor accommodates the restaurant (also the breakfast venue), the business center and other function rooms and facilities in addition to an open-air garden which is a nice touch.

The staff is attentive and helpful but limited by their English (and perhaps by insufficient training). One hopes that those aspects will improve with time to make it a truly outstanding hotel in Kunming.

Stayed 2 nights on floor 12. For China, this is a very nice hotel and I was impressed with the size, comfort and cleanliness of the modern business-designed room. The bed was less hard than I have learnt to expect in Chinese hotels and I slept well once I worked out how to turn on the air conditioning, which struggled to bring the temperature down to 23C (set at 18C!). Each utility (except the air conditioning) in the room comes with an English explanation which was helpful. Cable Internet was free and an ethernet cable was provided. The bathroom had a separate bath and shower and had a window onto the bedroom with a retractable blind - presumably to let natural light into the bathroom rather that exhibit bathroom rituals to anyone in the bedroom! No in-room iron and board, as usual, but plenty of sockets for re-charging tired phones. Nice flat-screen TV and everything you would expect for a upper-end of the market hotel. Breakfast was disappointing - a moderately big selection but fairly tasteless and it didn't inspire me to go and eat dinner there. The hotel is strategically situated close to department stores and clothes shops, which get progressively less designer as you move away from the vicinity of the hotel. I'm quite picky about hotels, and I would stay here again, so can recommend it to others if you want somewhere easy to stay that will fulfill most needs. The airport is about 20 min. by taxi with no traffic, and for non-Chinese speakers, I suggest you bring the Chinese address with you as taxi drivers generally speak no other languages.

Room Tip: My room was facing out front and it was quiet and light.

Location is Good. Shopping, Food, Entertainment etc.

Rooms are great. Big and spacious with nice clear glass window with motor rollers between room and bathroom. TV has many channels to cater to foreign guest. Room cleaners do a good job everyday tidying up place.

Breakfast is big spread but nothing much to shout about. Decent meals that can cater to most. Local noodle corner though is a must try.

Smoking can be seen everywhere. Lobby, Lifts, Corridors, Dining areas etc

Service needs improvement. Card key failed to work after first day and it took the staff two separate tries to get it right. Meantime, guest ends up having to run between room and front desk twice before room door can open.
