“Would have been 5 stars!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

What everyone said about the hotel's air-conditioning is true. It's useless calling room service as all they do is to come in and turn the thermostat to 16C. Spent 3 nights in April with warm and stale air. Fortunately, my wife was smart enough to insist in having a standing fan in the room. It was just bearable with the window opened and the fan circulating the air. Bear in mind, the outside temperature was averaging 20C but the room was averaging 28C!

The temperature must be centrally controlled as after much complain from us and other guest, the air conditioning starts to work!

Hotel is also far away from everywhere - no shops, no restaurant. Basically, a nice hotel in the middle of a new district with hardly any facilities. To be fair, you can find one restaurant in the hotel and one outside. Wifi is only available in the lobby. They have limited wifi routers for room.

Room Tip: Unless you are with a tour and on the way to Shilin (Stone Forest), stay in the city.

New and Grand Property but far away from the City. I have invited there with my family for dinner. Very large Buffet dinner and separate corner for Yunnan Specialty Rice noodles. Overall good place but far away from the city centre. Also, you can go to the Kunming's wholesale market (Losiwan LITC) from this hotel. If you are planing to go to LITC for shopping, better take a Chinese interpreter.

This hotel is located in the outskirts of Kunming, about 45 minutes by car from the Kunming airport or 30 minutes from the city centre. My hubby and I stayed 2 nights at this hotel for our Yunnan and Shangrila tours the following morning. Hotel foyer is massive with separate children play area section close to the restaurant and some retail stores within the hotel (which sell some instant noodles) as there’re no convenient stores or restaurants near the hotels. The hotel restaurant has room service menu from which we ordered the Yunnan noodle soup & chicken burger for our first night dinner.
Hotel room was clean and quite comfy but aircond seemed to be centrally controlled in the high 20C. Many new buildings are being constructed near this hotel which is surrounded by completed hotels which are well lit at night.
A buffet breakfast was included in our 2 nights stay and front desk staff was helpful and offered prompt service so overall the stay was pleasant.

It is a good hotel hotel meets international standard although its location is about half an hour away from Kunming city centre. Room is spacious and comfortable. However, aircon is an issue but not sure if this is apolicy or norm for the hotels in Yunnan. Believe there is a pre-set room temperature which is very warm for visitor from other parts of the world who is so used to aircon. For reason unknown, the aircon was even worse in the middle of the night and was waken up. The whole family did not have a reasonable sleep which is the negative part of the hotel. Breakfast is good too though it cannot be compared with other international hotels in Shanghai and Beijing.

Under the instruction of the GM to cut cost, aircon only effective a few hours a day, the room temperature constant at 27C-28C, you are unable to lower the temperature coz it's control from central.

You will never have bacon in breakfast time, you will only see the bacon when breakfast is about to end ! or you may complain to the captain and he will beg the fatty ugly chef to release one small plate of bacon to the requestor. But around 9:30AM you will see a full plate of bacon display on the table ! breakfast closed on 10:00am, can you imaging who can finish such a big plate of bacon except those all staff of the kitchen.

Mostly are a local tour group stay at that hotel, so the quality of the food can only be a 3 star ranking, not a 5 star ranking.

Room Tip: Will never have a good room if the General Manager still order to switch off the aircon in all build...

This is a new hotel in a massive new district in the south of Kunming (Chenggong) which is still under construction.

About an hour from downtown, but have a map and Chinese address, as none of the taxi drivers know the area or the hotel - though that will eventually change. The hotel and rooms are pretty good, and the service is dedicated and friendly, if not always efficient (and it helps if you speak some Chinese).

The rate was competitive as there seem to be few guests yet. It is the right side of town for the Stone Forest and not bad for Dianchi Lake & West Hill (RMB900 half day for a car and driver to the Stone Forest).

There is a metro very close by, but not yet open. Buildings going up all around. Probably another 12-18 months before the area settles down.

A very nice hotel with friendly staff but it's a heck of a loooong way - like 40+kms) from the new Kunming airport.

Taxi is the only sensible option from the airport (bus into Kunming first and then taxi can be done but wastes a lot of time, and only if you can speak Mandarin). Taxi takes an hour, costs about 130RMB. Rail is being built but far from complete as at 2012.

Back to the hotel...as at 2012, it's a 1 year old hotel in a new development area (new gov't buildings) so there are no shops or malls within coo-eee. Staff are very friendly and most front office staff speaks English well. Staff in the restaurant do not! Definitely needs improvements here.

Room is large enough for 2 large single beds. Well decorated.
Bathroom is of good size with bath, toilet and shower. Toiletries, hair dryer are included.
Large screen LCD TV is wall mounted but not able to be moved or swung around to get a better view when sitting at the desk. Only a minor inconvenience. Has international plug adapter in room and video in ports to display pictures to the TV (s-video/Video In + Audio L+R; plus VGA + PC audio input)

Room service - not super fast. Food is disappointing - ordered satay and bowl of noodle dumpling. Arrived warm and not hot; not all that tasty either. Room for big improvement here.

Ordered a club sandwich later, in the lobby bar. This time, quality is good, only let down in that no cutlery and napkin were delivered with the food. Tea is excellent - you get a large pot (enough for 4 cups) with multiple refills if you want.

This hotel definitely has potential - just need more English speaking staff and more attention to food service.
