Both my Chinese American fiancée and I spent three nights at the apartment. First I should say that I have been to China four times, somewhat aware of the culture and way of life. We were met by Mei's mother after we took the 26 RMB bus from the airport. Since I am a "foreigner" I was very easy to spot. Mei's mother is a very special person, I really can't remember meeting anyone quite that nice. We had a tug of war with her because she wanted to carry our bags. For the duration we loved our contact with her, she is that nice.
Being in Xi'an, steps from the Muslim Quarter is soooooooo neat, we loved it. When we arrived, there was fresh bananas waiting with some coffee for our stay, I really appreciated this act of hospitality. I have been to many hotels in China, the beds are like boards, at Mei's apartment I was pleasantly surprised they were very comfortable with bedding that was oh so comfy. Mei was not in Xi'an at the time but was completely available by phone. We chose not to take tours, but she arranged a complete two-day itinerary that we could do by ourselves. We really appreciated that.
During our stay we were on the go at all times. We spent little time at the apartment and when we did it was very comfortable. Yes, the Chinese often have a shower in the bathroom that makes the floor wet. It is common and not a big deal.
I would like to say this place has special value. I stayed in a two bedroom apartment (I snore). If you were to get a small 25-30 sq. meter hotel room in a better hotel you would pay two to three times more. You can't pay to have such a nice host like Mei's mother (I still miss her!).
If you read all the reviews here they are all positive with a few exceptions. Either the people don't understand the Asian culture or they want the Taj Mahal for $50-$60 bucks.
Xi'an can't be beat, it is a wonderful, wonderful city. The Terra Cotta Warriors are mind boggling, as is the Muslim Quarter, the "Wall" and all the sightseeing walking distance from the apartment.
This is a great place for the money, location and hospitality.
