This hotel is newly remodeled, with trys at upscale "western" touches, such as the elevated glass sinks and comforters. Unfortunately, the sink never drained properly, the bath mat was covered in mildew, and the room is laid out so askew it's impossible to open your suitcase without lugging it onto the bed every time you need something. And the lighting--well, let's just say it was wierd.
You have to experience that yourself. All that said, it's in the heart of a bustling city scene, night and day. Great people watching,
beds were comfortable, and those comforters an unexpected treat in China! Breakfast was great, with eggs cooked to order, clean dishes, and decent coffee.

Watch out for the internet rip off--one filthy computer, and a chage of one RMB a minute. The most expensive I encountered in any hotel in
China or Tibet.

This hotel was chosen by our tour group operator. It is located near the Southgate. The room was clean, reasonably quiet, and had all the usual amenities. Breakfast was not bad, not great, with a mix of western and eastern items. The front desk staff were inefficient and not very helpful, so don't count on them if you're a demanding traveler.

Arrived here (booked by Kuoni / CITS)after a long flight.
Set the DND sign and went to sleep.
Woken by telephone sometime after 10pm and thought we heard "Do you want your message?" (in english!) After some confused exchange - so sorry and rang off.
Second night - same thing - woken in the middle of the night! - realised after the call they were asking "do you want a 'MASSAGE'?"
Complained to the desk (with our guide so there was no confusion)the next morning - was assured it would not happen again! - I unplugged the telephone!
Set the DND sign and expected a reasonable sleep before our 5am flight.
Just before midnight they came knocking on the door!
Do you want a massage!

If you want a ---- house stay here - otherwise find a hotel!
